Thanks Gary. I still just get text on the 'm-r' page 1 though.

I think the problem might be my firewall which blocks anything with the word 'advert'! There are a lot of posts on the TV Ark forum about this. I've tried everything, including turning off the firewall.

Look I promise I will get it done as soon as possible.
Bear in mind it will still need compressing and burning to cd and then we'll have to sort out distribution. I don't want anyone lumbered with having to churn out hundreds of cds. Thats where you lot will come in . Get a copy burn a copy pass it on etc etc.

In the meantime I will send chris the original digibeta and the frame files I lifted off it on CD. ( I promise I will do this..its packed up and ready to go) Then we can have a think as to what the best format will be.

The shiny clean one I am knocking up just needs a few more of the geometric shapes rushing towards the camera. I literally need about 6 hours to polish it up but its just been so difficult to get any time recently.

    This is sooooo good :smashin:

I'm always cheery (for a moment! :D ) when the thread reappears.

Incidentally, I'll be happy to contribute 'burn time' when the day comes too.

    Patience, patience...

I have been following this thread with great interest over the months.

Today I came across this site:

    http://www.visit4info.com/

It has mainly new ads .. but some old ones (including a cool C64 advert), .. admitidly the quality of the ads are not great, but they are at least in QT format , and there are slightly better versions available for each ad.

I have converted some of them to VCD using TMPGENC, and the ones I did, came out fine, well acceptable anyway (bearing in mind I use a projector, with a screen size of roughly 80 inches!) ...

    Enjoy ....

    Cheers Badboy!

Thanks for the link. I really enjoyed watching them! The Reclens spoof ad is a scream.

File is ready, and as good as it gets....

So if you want it, drop a line and lets talk...

I can author a DVD for you, but you'll may want to send DVD and case to me (along with a small donation ;) )

Here is a 720 x 576 Divx. Not as sharp as the uncompressed Quicktime I used for the .VOB and AVI files...

    www.craigcrane.com/Pearl/P&D_DIVX.avi

All cracks and pops are the real deal from the reel, and sound very cinemary on a THX system.... in an antiquated 70's style..

Works fine for me Craig but I had to take the "&" out of the name. Its a wildcard!
Says its got a broken frame at the end though

Looks good !! Nice one much cleaner than the 16mm version. Better colour too. This will be a big help in doing a higher res version.

Get as clean a version as possible at 720x576 ( or thereabouts)
Create a higher resolution fabrication of the original ( almost done this but I've been mimicking some colour errors on the 16mm version! the lettering fades off to a purplish colour on the outer edged I thought this was designed but I think the 16mm was a bit toasted!) I'd like to do a proper 16x9 version rather than a crop.

I'm not really sure why we are doing this but....

Eventually get a nice version ( yours is probably good enough for the time being as it stands).
convert it to a relevant format and get your dvd software player to use it as an intro before it plays a dvd or alternatively play at start up.

Potentially do personalised versions at some point ( I'd need to knock up the rest of the typeface though).

Then we go mad and grab all sorts of esoteric long forgotten cinema ads for that total nostalgic bag of butterkist and a kia-ora type experience. ( remember when you could smoke in a cinema!)

Sounds like a great idea... Inever actually read the thread in full

If you make it Hi rez though, wont it kinda detract from the "local ABC / Odeon" mid 70's feel? I never saw a razor sharp print of this. At best it was always a little soft and hazy.... and the mint 35mm I have is pretty much the same.

    Just a thought

any news on a high res version of the original ad ?

I have a 512Mbs ADSL link with a DVDR burner if that helps in anyway as to its distribution ! ?

I have also seen some apps that will run an AVI as your desktop wallpaper which might look quite cool for a HTPC !?
