When daily programs are recorded the series record feature limits itself to 7 days. What this means in practice is that setting a series to record a daily program say Mon thru Fri will see the feature fail to record the following week even though the program is available in the guide. The timer has to be deleted and reapplied for the following week to fix things. Not much use if you go on vacation.

Page 34 of the manual describes manually setting a program to record a daily series. The example 'Day/Date' column shows a single date however it has a range of values including Mon-Fri. When the Timer recording menu is opened the new series recording will be displayed. The 'Space' column will show a date some 30 days in the future with a sideways arrow.

This date rolls continuously forward if the recorded programs are deleted after viewing. If the programs are kept the arrowed date represents the date when the collection of recorded programs will fill the disk.

Is this lacklustre automated series recording feature a fault or an undesirable feature? The software version in use is v1.6 I wonder how many other products have a similar problem?

p34 seems to be about manual recording.

    See p30 of the manual.

Guide -> Select Programme -> Select Series

Yes, Page 30 describes what you would normally do. Under balloon 3 it says of Series Timer Rec: "Timer Programme is set for all the episodes of a series programme". 'Not' true! Only true if episodes fall within separate weeks, the more likely scenario.

If the series programme is aired daily it will limit itself at most to recording 7 episodes and then the timer will fail to record the following weeks episodes. The timer has to be deleted and restored for the new week. You can test this by recording episodes of Stargate on Pick TV.

How many other PVR boxes have this feature/problem?

It may be all... because there is a good chance that Pick TV is the problem... if they are not presenting the recording codes correctly which does seem to be a problem with such 'secondary' channels on Freeview.

I agree Pick TV could be the problem. However, Panasonic help desk didn't mention this as they had a workaround. No doubt they had met the problem before? Maybe members could test what you say on their own boxes to see what happens? Thankfully, the manual series record feature is working fine except that it won't pick up changes to the broadcast schedule? Bit of a mystery all told?

Tested on a Hitatchi HDR165 last night: Wednesday through to Tuesday were all picked up but not the following Wednesday edition of Stargate SG-1. Will test again tonight.
