Deadline reports that Darren Aronofsky and Russell Crowe are signed and sealed to do Noah, a big budget biblical re-telling of Noah’s Ark, which is based on John Logan‘s rewrite of Aronofsky and Ari Handel's script, with the shoot starting in July.

This has been a long time passion project for Aronofsky,

Since then he's gone on to say various other bits and pieces about the project,

Gotta say its a ludicrous idea for a film, but not as ludicrous as Aronofsky's comments. Noah is an 'environmentalist'? The biblical flood wasn't 'climate change'- it was an act of mass genocide. Will that be factored into the script?

A film about Noah's flood would only work if it were done as a comedy.

Aronofsky is no stranger to comedy if the histrionic Requiem for a Dream is anything to go by.

Between the doctor's visit that leads to a lobotomy, the refrigerator possessed by Zuul the Gatekeeper of Gozer, and of course... "ASS TO ASS", I think Requiem comfortably invokes a hearty chuckle or two. ;)

It's also tricksy, turn-everything-to-11 melodrama. At least Black Swan was somewhat knowing its daftness. I really likd Pi, though.

It does make you wonder how he's going to do it. He's going to need a rediculously big boat for a start. Then after the flood there's the small issue of repopulating the entire planet with only one pair of every animal.

Such a boring story...even Roland Emmerich must have passed on it and he loves all that disaster crap.

The scene that cracked me up is when Ellen Burstyn, bug eyed with overacting, gets chased around her kitchen by her fridge. Because that's what happens when you take speed, kids. Totally agree, never understood why so many people take this film seriously, it's pitched at the same level of hysteria as Reefer Madness is.

You know that's how I always felt about Noah's Ark. I love many of the stories of the Bible and moral teachings but this one (and some other stories) made no moral sense for me. I mean, Jesus Christ, God is a ruthless genocide killer here! I wouldnt want to believe in such a God.

Having said that, this story could make for a good cinematic spectacle but I might have a problem not seeing Charlton Heston in it :)

If they have the guts to actually depict scenes of drowning babies and terrified women and children being murdered in the millions, I'll say kudos to the producers and take it seriously. If not I think the entire concept of this movie is offensive and stupid.

    - Emma Watson has joined the biblical pic, and she'll be playing Ila, who will apparently catch the eye of Noah's son Shem, played by Douglas Booth.

    - Jennifer Connelly is still linked, but not official.

    - Saorise Ronan was linked but she won't be in the film according to reports.

Exactly, then again I said the same thing before Titantic was released.

Can't see how they are going to sex this up enough to make it the least interesting, everyone knows the story, no one really cares about it.

and if they even think about Crowe crooning out 'and the animals went into the ark 2 by 2' in some Lee Marvin Wondering Star fashion, stop right there.

I think the story would be more interesting told as a Sci-Fi futuristic movie where the earth is dying or under threat from an exstiction event and "Noah" builds a space ship to try and save what life he can and find a new start out in the universe somewhere.

He just looks like Noah, not that I know what Noah looks like.
