Those finishes look awsome, just really like the piano gloss black.
I'll be watching and waiting for these beauties over here.

    Thanks for that Audio15.

    :D

They look amazing, just the looks ooze quality. I've always found MA in the lower series a bit on the forward/brighter side on the top (though a lot better than some alternatives!!) any change on that? And will there be a non gloss option, not everybody wants to have two huge mirrors in their living room :)

I just phoned MA in Rayleigh, Essex & they told me that the Platinum range is NOT being launched at this weekends Sound & Vision show in Bristol. They told me that they will be unveiled at the end of March but couldnt say where this would happen.

I have noticed that in in RS serie there are an huge peak at around 20KHz. It's the breakup?
In the GS serie this peak is present? The two tweeter are the same?

I've listened the RS8 speaker and i liked very much, maybe it has a little too much "booming" bass. I would listening the GS serie too (i'm interested especially for the GS20 that should have a more linear responce and wider soundstage than the RS8 ).

I believe that the Platinum range is now shipping to UK dealers. The audioworks in Cheadle have just taken delivery of the stand mount and first impressions are very encouraging.

    They're certainly beautifully finished.

I'll definitely go for a demo of these at some point, which dealers will you be selling them through?

I have looked into the prospect of obtaining a set of these to run in a 5.1 system and have decided against it

The actual cost is in excess of £420k

That's the cost of the speakers plus the cost of losing my flat in the divorce settlement :(

Obviously you folks at MA decided to produce the Platinums in piano black, after all.

I'm glad. My PL100s, piano black, arrive next week, along with their stands

Only my 5th pair of Monitor Audio speakers in the last 7 years. :smashin:

There is a review of the PL300 in this months copy of HI-FI Choice (received today - I'm a subscriber).

90% overall score and Editor's Choice award.

There are some American sites similar to this one where they people have bought, tested and reviewed them. Most people seem to consider them superior to the GS series. No shock there.

Google is, as always, your friend.

Only about 8 hours in, so not even close to broken in of course ...
A/B'ing with my GS20s, fed from: Bel Canto DAC3,
    Bel Canto M300 monoblocs ( 300w > 4 ohms, each ),
MA Pureflow speaker cables about 1.5 meters each:

The PL100s: First, detail, detail, detail. And more detail.
Tweeter: effortless, silky. Bass/midrange driver: tight,
authoritative, and even though not quite as deep a reach
in the stats, very close to the GS 20s bass. In some
ways even better. At a loss for a non-fluffy adjective here, sorry.

Build quality is perfection. Very sexy. The leather is
darker than I would have guessed from photos: it's sort of 'carbon' --
very dark gray. Love it. And for anyone concerned ( I was, kinda' ),
the tweeters dispersion is every bit
as wide in all directions as the GS20s' tweeters, near as I can tell.

The stands are built like tanks, and as heavy. We like that too. :)

So, your typical Monitor Audio fare: awfully darn good. :smashin:

Five days later, rapidly approaching the 100 hour recommended run-in ...

The PL100s are really something. Incredible detail.

The ribbon tweeter is entirely sweet, smooth, and airy.

Resolution at medium/low-level volume -- excellent.

No, I have no connection with MA -- except that they have separated me
from plenty of my money lately! :)

If I thought I could match the high quality of MAs own
    press/marketing photos, I would.
These are all very clear, very large images ...

sorry to drag up an old thread but i went in to my local sevenoaks yesterday and they had a fair size stand with all the platinum brochures/cut outs etc but no speakers

when i asked why they hadn't got any speakers he said every pair they get in sells within 24 hours! the owner of the shop even offered me a pair of some huge gorgeous dali's for half price brand new as he had purchased them for himself but after hearing the new platinum's he was that impressed he had to have a pair.

they really must be good speakers and i've got a demo of some on tuesday although i have no intention of buying any he said i should have a listen. :suicide:

still not seen a pair in anyones cinema's/stereo systems in the gallery......

FWIW, I would not trade my PL100s for Meridians, Sonus Fabers, Krells, Linns, Paradigms,
Focal Labs, and a few other competitors' bookshelves that I recently re-auditioned at
my local dealer. Not even close. :)

    thank you.

i'll still give them a demo but really can't see them being that much better than the 805S especially as i'd probably have to put up over a grand after selling my speakers and stands just to buy the speakers :thumbsdow

hmmm yes I've also heard this lol :thumbsdow if it really is a match made in heaven then I'd be happy to sell my 805S and buy some PL100's I can't see the store letting me have a home demo at present if the platinum range is selling so quick!!

i'll see how things go in the next week or two
