My mum's looking for an mp3 player. She needs one with a sleep timer because she wants to listen to it while she falls asleep and doesn't want it to run continuously. She's been in Currys Digital and John Lewis but they weren't very helpful. Can anyone suggest one?

I asked on another forum and someone suggested a Sansa Fuze, but my research indicates its sleep timer only switches it off if nothing is playing. Someone else suggested the Samsung YPT9 but that is really expensive (£50 for 1GB).

The Creative Zen X-Fi definitely has a sleep timer, which can be set to turn the player off after 15 minutes, 30 minutes etc up to 2 hours. Probably not the cheapest player, but I can recommend it for sound quality, size and ease of use, etc.

Cowon/iAudio players also have sleep timer.

The iAudio7 has excellent sound quality and very robust (handy when you fall asleep on top of the thing).

Your Mum may have already got her MP3 player but if not...

The Sansa Clip can definitely sleep even if music is playing.
You can choose between 10, 20, 30, 45, 60, 90 and 120 minute blocks of time. The sleep setting isn't remembered after it switches itself off so would have to be set each night. Plus it's a great player!

The Creative Zen V+ also has a sleep timer although this time the setting is remembered.

I second Cowon as a good brand. Iriver is also another very good make.

Both will have advanced features which no doubt will include a sleep timer

I have to agree. I love my Cowon Iaudio 7. And regularly fall asleep while listening to audiobooks and podcasts.

    ShimSham,
Does your iAudio remember where you left off when you fall asleep listening to your audiobook or do you have to find your place each day?
