[Mod Comment]For discussion of the Logitech UE Smart Radio

The Squeezebox Radio thread is here

For Squeezebox Radio owners there's a [probably] one-way process of changing the firmware. I don't think the upgrade is official yet but there's details here.

    Some context:

This thread has been created out of the ashes of the SB Radio thread linked above. I didn't create it so had better rationalise it. What follows is a response to Kamaran asking for a picture of the SB Radio & asking about the upgrade process. This was before it was all official.

so assuming I upgrade the firmware does this essentially become a UE internet radio (without battery?)

What about the host side for connecting to my NAS iTunes library? Can I then use the UE equivalent?

Are the differences including pro's/con's of both versions documented anywhere?

    Yes.

It's a bit odd in that you need an Internet connection even when playing local music as the server software is now web based. But you also need software running locally.

Best I can offer is to wade through this thread. To be honest, any further questions are probably best posted there as well.

Thanks just updated, took 10 minutes total (radio, NAS, iPhone)

I can't find an option to power off the radio from the app - has this functionality been lost?

Hm, I've not been able to get mine to update.
    I did this:
    - Logged into mysqueezebox.com account and chose the 'Update to UE Smart Radio' option under the Player section.
    - A new menu option appeared on the main SB Radio screen - 'Update to UE Smart Radio'
    - From the new menu, I selected 'Continue'
    - From the subsequent menu, I selected 'Begin update'

After that, nothing. I left it for two hours, no dice. Am I doing something wrong? It's connected straight to a LAN port, not wireless.

To anybody who has updated to UE, what is the difference? I've heard various rumours but don't just want to take it from that.
Can it still be synced with other Squeezeboxes in your house?

Try powering it down, waiting a few mins and trying again.

Alternatively perhaps be the server was down.

I'm missing an app I used all the time on my Squeezebox radio - it was called "Podcasts" and it allowed you to add an RSS feed of any podcast to mysqueezebox.com - it was dead handy. But it's gone with the update!

OK, I'm answering my own post here - but it looks like Podcasts is gone (along with Favourites). Here's a user on another forum with the same problem: Where are Podcasts and Favorites in UE Smart Radio... - Logitech Forums
I would have probably held off on updating had I known, bah.

I believe the UE can but it's been absent from the Radio's portal for some time.

    Have a read of this.

I'm currently building a home media server running WHS 2011. Does anyone know if the UE Media Library can be installed on WHS 2011 or could anyone suggest an alternative for my needs? I'm looking for an Internet Radio that can stream from Spotify and can access music that will be stored on my media server. Any assistance would be appreciated.

You'd probably be better off asking on the old SlimDevices forum:

    Squeezebox Radio

There's no add-in for WHS to allow installation through the Console so you'd have to do it through Remote Desktop. I would say try it & see that that will only confirm if it installs, not whether it works.

As for alternatives, if you can find a Squeezebox Radio then that will work with WHS & there's an add-in. The Spotify requirement limits other solutions, how do you want to use the new device & do you have a premium account?
