    Tetlee, have you tried the DVD version of Supernature and specifically the DTS track? The box says it is 24/96, but neither my player nor processor recognise it as 24/96.

    I think one of the DM albums (Playing the Angel maybe - need to check that) is the same. The box and disc have the 24/96 logo but it doesn't come up as that when played.

    off topic: I got a mail form Cambridge Audio with a job offer for a customer service officer; perhaps you could try them for a bit, you know - in between jobs. You might even get to buy equipment at staff prices, maybe even after you leave

    Sorry for the late response Mr.O, my DV137 has been in for repair and back since posting.

    Anyway, just tested and mine is the same, however testing both the DTS and the Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS is a very clearly superior to the Dolby Digital option.

    On another note purchased my first couple of SACD's in ages this week and both arrived today.

    Firstly Roger Waters: The Wall live in Berlin, after buying tickets for The Wall Live next year I thought I'd better nab this one while I still can, suddenly disappeared from stock everyhere(no doubt due to the tour) but found one s/h on amazon for £17 which I was pleased with. The Wall is actually my favourite album of all time(well, alongside DSOTM), but being a bit of a purist I was never too keen on some of the guest performances from this concert, none the less it's probably the only time The Wall will be released in high res now so in my collection it will stay:)

    Second was The Police: Every Breath You Take , one of my few ebay wins and got it for a £9.99 which I was chuffed with when the auction ended, off to listen to that in a minute. Has some good tracks on that album and unlike Outlandos d' Amour which I also have on SACD, this one has multi-channel so should be good hopefully.

    It's disturbing how hard it's becoming to source even more of the once plentiful SACD/DVD-A's now, even in the last 12 months stocks have plummeted and there are more and more releases that are on my list being removed from all the online store pages:(

    Need more money dammit!

    The next King Crimson 40th Anniversary DVD-A's, Islands and In The Wake Of Poseidon are now available to preorder from burningshed, both releasing on 11th of October.

    King Crimson

    I've only bought Red so far which is fantastic so really need to purchase the other two to keep on top of things, notice that Lizard is already disappearing so those that want the full set would be advised to hunt that one down soonish.

    Thanks for the heads up: just ordered "Lizard". The only KC I've heard so far are
    "Red" and "Court of the Crimson King" which are both really good (when you're in the mood for it). It's quite a unique fusion of music and I'm intrigued enough to hear some more stuff, so I'm glad they're releasing more on these dual cd/dvd-a editions.

    I have Lizard on its way to me as we speak, might arrive today. Ordered from Zavvi who have it listed at £11.95 which seems the cheapest, good thing is they sent me a £1.00 coupon aswell so £10.95 for me, even better:)

    Zavvi.com - King Crimson - Lizard (+DVDA) CD

    Like I mentioned I only have Red so far, which I really love in places, although a bit weird and drawn out in others, think I just need it to "click" which I can imagine it doing at some point as it's certainly within my taste.

    Listened to King Crimson: Lizard earlier and I really love it! Great listen and I love the jazz fusion, totally different album to Red. Glad I bought this one, brilliant album and nice use of surround too:cool:

    On another note, I just made yet another SACD purchase(I seem to get little crazy spells on these, after not buying anything for a while). Just purchased a pre-owned Depeche Mode: Some Great Reward(for £10.95) from a site called netsoundsmusic, never seen or heard of the site before but thought I'd take a chance as that album is becoming very hard to find now.

    Right, must stop now, the missus will see the credit card statement soon:rolleyes::D

    That's one hell of a collection you're building up there Steve, envious of quite a few that you have;)

    I see you have a couple of Elton John albums, I would highly recommend Honky Chateau which you can still get for a fiver on amazon, it really is a beautiful and warm sounding SACD.

    Have never been a fan of Elton but I also bought Captain Fantastic shortly after Honky and enjoy that also, not quite as much. But then a few months ago I purchased Madman Across The Water and that really is a fantastic album, more progressive rock than any of his other stuff I've heard, and the title track is just immense, best Elton song I've heard by a country mile!

    Anyway, I finally caved in this morning and ordered my most expensive purchase so far:rolleyes: Groove Armada: Goodbye Country Hello Nightclub. It's one I've wanted for ages and there's an ebay seller from the Netherlands that sells it on there occasionally for £35.95, painful to pay but worried that he either runs out or increases his price as it certainly has become rare these days and never seen anyone else sell it even on ebay, hopefully will be worth it:)

    So my current list:

    DVD-Audio:

    * Talking Heads: Brick(inc. Talking Heads: 77, More Songs About Buildings And Food, Fear Of Music, Remain In Light, Speaking In Tongues, Little Creatures, True Stories, and Naked)

    * Todd Rundgren: Liars
    * Amon Tobin: Chaos Theory soundtrack
    * King Crimson: Red
    * King Crimson: Lizard
    * Bjork: Medula
    * Gerry Rafferty: Can I have my money back?
    * Chigago: V
    * Yes: Fragile
    * Bryan Ferry: Frantic
    * David Gray: New Day at Midnight

    SACD:

    * Genesis: 1970-75 Box(inc. Trespass, Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England By The Pound, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway)
    * Genesis: 1983-98 Box(inc. Genesis, Invisible Touch, We Can't Dance, Calling All Stations)
    * Pink Floyd: DSOTM
    * Roger Waters: The Wall live in Berlin
    * RPWL: World Through My Eyes
    * Brian Ferry: Boys and Girls
    * Jeff Wayne: War of the Worlds
    * Mike Oldfield: Tubular Bells
    * Peter Gabriel: Up
    * Peter Gabriel: So
    * Billy Joel: The Stranger
    * Nick Drake: A Treasury
    * Elton John: Honky Chateau
    * Elton John: Captain Fantastic
    * Elton John: Madman Across The Water
    * Toto: Toto IV
    * Propaganda: A Secret Wish
    * Michael Jackson: Thriller
    * Spandau Ballet: True
    * Perfect Houseplants: New Folk Songs
    * Diana Krall: The Girl in the other Room
    * Diana Krall: When I Look Into Your Eyes +
    * Moloko: Statues
    * Goldfrapp: Supernature
    * Kinobe: Versebridgechorus
    * Bob Dylan: Love & Theft
    * Depeche Mode: A Broken Frame +
    * Depeche Mode: Playing the Angel
    * Depeche Mode: Music for the Masses
    * Depeche Mode: Ultra
    * Depeche Mode: Exciter

    I don't have a massive amount of SACD/DVD-A, but here goes:

    SACD
    Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
    Super Furry Animals - Lovekraft
    The Who - Tommy
    Isaac Hayes - The Isaac Hayes Movement

    DVD-A
    King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King
    King Crimson - Lizard
    Beck - Guerro*

    I'm planning to buy the other (and forthcoming) King Crimson releases (admittedly an acquired taste!) as they're good packages. In truth I'd probably have more but for the stupid prices so many titles seem to fetch :(

    I have to say, both formats have their pros and cons. I like the fact that you can just chuck an SACD in the player and play it (as per a CD) without needing menus. Then again, DVD-A can at least be ripped for hard-drive media streaming purposes.

    *not a bone-fide DVD-A as such, but an extra disc that came with the "deluxe" version of the regular album.

    Glad I took the plunge, just noticed he's put another on ebay and has now increased the price to £40.95, I read that one well:)

    @McFaber, that looks like quite a big list to me, again some great discs in there;) What's Tumbleweed Connection like? I've considered that a few times, is it similar to any of the EJ albums in my collection?

    @Norlis, What is the Beck: Guerro DVD-A like(particularly the multi-channel)? I've looked at that a few times, seems the only place you can get it is importing from the US. I have Sea Change on DVD-A and it's fantastic, wondering if Guerro is just as good, if so a must buy! Also is it definately a DVD-Audio, or a DTS/ Dolby disc?

    Sorry for the delay in response and I see I've been beaten to it!

    As said, the disc definitely contains DVD-A content and not DTS (does contain DD for non DVD-A players though).

    The album itself is a good 'un - as indeed all Beck albums are IMHO - though whether it's worth seeking this edition out specifically for the DVD-A content I suppose depends on how much it costs these days! The surround mix is pretty nice although the 2.0 MLP is only 48khz not 96khz as you might have expected.

    Thanks guys, put in a "best offer" ebay from a US seller, they accepted so it cost me around £11 with delivery. I do like Beck(used to have most of his albums, but no idea what I did with them when we moved overseas) so this should be good:)

    Was in my local independant this morning looking through the £2.50 bargain box, and saw Sting: Sacred Love in there. As much as I've always really liked The Police I've never liked Sting solo, but £2.50 for a multi-channel SACD I had to buy it.

    I'd read some pretty stinking reviews for this album, especially with regards to the sonics. Been listening to it just now and it's actually a fairly pleasant surprise, not mad on any of the songs, they fall into the middle of the road category I would say. As for the sonics, the opener sounds as though I forgot to turn the sub on as it's very bright, but the rest of the tracks I think sound pretty good, deep and with a nice warmth to the sound(very strange why the first track sounds so bright & tinny by comparison), much better than many of the reviewers make out IMO.

    Certainly will never be one of my favourite in my collection, but as a bargain purchase I'm pretty pleased with it:)

    I have this SACD - also from the bargain bin so I didn't complain too much :)

    it's funny how the 23 reviews on Amazon are almost evenly spread out between 2 and 5 stars - not entirely sure all of them were about the content of this particular album - which is OK in and of itself, perhaps deficient when held up against past works - or of Sting as a whole.

    But it's a rare contemporary surround SACD...

    After keeping check for months, and recently forgetting to bid on one on ebay that ended auction at just £11.50:eek: I finally purchased Depeche Mode: Violator.

    Someone listed with BIN on ebay for £30 which was a great price, snapped it up straight away as it came just after the news I have a new job(start next week), my celebration pressie:)

    Really looking forward to receiving that one!

    Hello McFaber,

    Thanks for giving us your list. What´s the Jean Michel Jarre "Oxygene" album like? I have the "Aero" album, which is the disc guilty of getting me into hi-res - and all the associated expense! Is the "Oxygene" album ´rather like "Aero", in that it´s a DVD-V with DTS and DD audio options - and packed in a Super Jewel Box? If you´re able to provide a url link, that´d be great.

    Hello Ronm1,

    Very pleased to see you´re still adding to this thread. Have you had a chance yet to listen to your "Eye in the Sky" DVD-A again yet? I´d be really interested to know whether you hear the same "faults" on a few of the tracks.

    One of the reasons my SACD and DVDA discs are gathering dust is I simply can't be bothered to get up and put them in the tray when all my other studd is ripped to my PC and so easy.

    I'm intrigued to learn DVDA can now be ripped...that wasn't the case in the early days. Anyone care to explain how?

    Getting the raw MLP off the disc if very easy these days - DVD Audio Extractor will do the job. What you do with it after that is rather harder.

    There are other tools that will rip the MLP into its constituent 6 channels. You can then re-encode that as DTS 24/96, say and play it back on a Squeezebox that has its digital out connected to a suitable decoder.

    The software needed for stage one is, at best, in a grey area as I understand it, but can be "sourced" and a DTS encoder will set you back about £1,500.
