Ok i installed the 9.12 drivers but still says Driver version 9.8?
Seemed weird, installed full package as usuall, then seemed to only install CCC (said after reboot no ATI graphics driver installed), so went back to download driver only. Installed and that seemed to work fine installing drivers.
Rebooted and said no ATI driver installed, then the windows icon installed Drivers popped up with HD4870 installing/installed.
Why'd it do that? Anyone tried 9.12 drivers?
When uninstalling drivers, should u select the "delete device driver for this device" button before hand?
Never done that before but this time 9.12 dont wanna work. Tried x2 seems like it not working then installing old drivers auto.

Sounds like you've installed the Hotfix first before the official 9.12 drivers. The Hotfix doesn't have a driver version string, so it will show you what you had on before. It doesn't matter though, other than it not saying what driver it is on CCC. So you could have left it there at that.

Download the offficial 9.12 and the 9.12 hotfix separately and then uninstall what you've got using the ATI driver uninstall when you run the official drivers.

    Then install 9.12 official.

Once that's installed, install the Hotfix.

Then when that's done, install the ATI Stream drivers.

Always get the full package in each case.

Cheers, Will have another play. Ive always unistalled from device manager should you uninstall from New driver software instead?

Hadn't touched the hotfix or stream drivers at all first.
Seen which was which and attempted to install CCC 9.12 full package first as i normally do but seems to not have worked.
Strange as since march when had rig for first time mayb done drivers 3 times and all been fine.
Does it usually pop up in tray with Installing driver software icon after reboot? Been a while and cant remember.

Yeah you only need the ATI installation routine... it has Catalyst Install Manager, and that deals with all the uninstalling of previous drivers, and installing the new ones.

Just stick to that and it makes it simple as anything.

It's a struggle going back to my other PCs that have nVidia cards in them, as it's a total pain in the arse compared to the ease of installing ATI drivers now.

It might be installing after the reboot if it needed to clean up first before installing the new drivers... but either way it should be working grand.

Ok will give that a go now, always done it from device manager. Then done drivers after. Hopefully in 5mins that'll be it....

    EDIT

Ok this is a pain in arse.lol
Never had this prob when doing 9.8, took 10mins as this should have.

Unistalled everything, downloaded full pack 9.12 official again, Ran it, reboots, installs driver but no CCC installed:confused:

I look at drivers in GPU-Z and says 9.3?
Look in device manager and i remember that driver date of 25/02/09 from when i first got PC.

    EDIT

Ok all sorted, god knows why was dsiplaying 9.3 but clicked update device driver and pointed it to the folder and all works fine (9.12)

Then installed CCC and that's ok now too. Looks like an old version but says 9.12 so it's ok.
Is it different? (image below) ? Remem i missed a few updates. But it's now missing screen align options and looks like an old version to me, my last version had all the options down the side.

Just wouldn't work the easy way lol but all seems ok now. Now to get all my settings back again.

Sounds like you're almost there mate. As you said it should only take a few minutes to do haha.

The settings you are looking for are noq under Desktops & Displays. When you see your display in the bottom strip of that screen either right click it or press the little arrow in the corner and click on the option on the menu that says CONFIGURE.

All the scaling/adjustment options are under there now.

Ah nice yeah see it, handy that had to mess up PC settings on tv, now can sort it back again.
Installed the hotfix and stream aswell. All seems fine. God knows why wasnt working for me earlier tho did have loads in the ATi tech folder got rid of all that and still didnt work, lol but got it in the end.

Benchmark again later with DiRT and see if there was a difference.

    Cheers

Minimum Frames on the Dirt Bench was 10 higher but in general similar..
But must say Crysis Warhead runs lovely. Rarely below 40 and up to 55 :smashin:

    8 x AA (ED) 8x AF
All settings Gamer apart from water on enthusiast. Dont think it ran quite so well before. Peharps my extra little OC may have helped there too, dunno.
    All good tho. :smashin:

Is OpenCL and directcompute relevant to any games/software around at the moment?

Most of them, as far as I can see.

They facilitate the co-operation between your multi-core CPU, and your GPU. Optimising the pathways between them etc.

Certainly I've seen an improvement on games such as Dragon Age, and L4D2.

There's a loaf more info about them here if you want to learn a bit more, mate:

    ATI Stream Technology

    ATI Stream Technology - Consumer

ATI Stream has been in the drivers since Catalyst 8.12, but this is the latest 2.0 version which seems to be heavily optimised.

Oh I meant to say that I found this weird Windows 7 feature/bug that causes some games to only run in 1080i mode, or some games to lock up completely (Bioshock you git).

Windows 7 sticks closely to the HDMI spec of having 59.xxxHz instead of 60Hz refresh. This works fine in most games, but some games it causes problems like CoH, RE5, Gears Of War, and Bioshock.

This is a problem on nVidia and ATI cards.

The fix is pretty simple... you need to make a new custom resolution that has a refresh rate of 60.001Hz. This means vsync works better, you will always get 1080p, and should eliminate any potential problems like Bioshock not working.

Strangely most of the problems are when you use DX10 modes, as these select the refresh in a weird way compared to DX9 or DX11.

Here's a solution for nVidia cards, but you can do the same using ATI as well:

Do you know if this stream tech will ever be included with the normal catalyst drivers, or are we going to have to reinstall it after every update?

Doesn't always seem to work in Windows 7 for some reason. I had that working fine, but some games it still happens on because the refresh rate is on 59Hz instead of 60Hz.

59Hz is correct for films etc, but causes problems with those games.

They'll put the latest in the drivers once it's out of beta.

Most likely in the Catalyst 10.1 I would have thought.

Doesn't work for me on Win7 X64 with Crysis.

Most of my games have some kind of refresh rate issue :thumbsdow, except the only completely bug free game I can remember.........SF4!

If you want to get rid of it completely, just use Rivatuner/MSI Afterburner and set-up a custom resolution the same way as detailed for the nVidia fix.

Seems to have cured my weird problems on a few games.
