This time they didn't wait around long. Just one day after the 4S launch, the rumour mongers - correction, analysts - are already hard at work with their insightful "analysis".

Guess what are the proposed new features:

    • Larger screen
    • Slimmer profile

But that's only actually happening on the next iPhone after all.

To make matters worse it's claimed that Steve Jobs wasn't actually that involved in the 4S, because he was busy with the next one: "Another source, who I spoke with this week and who claims to have knowledge of the redesign, said the iPhone 5 is a "complete redesign. This is a very large project that Steve dedicated all of his time to. He was not that involved in the 4S because his time was limited."

Only an analyst could make this up.

Gentlemen, start your rumour engines. Full story here:

I could never understand how apple get their new designs into build and still keep a secret? Do they pay everyone off???

    Hahah.

I'm actually liking the design of the 4S even more, now that the antenna is completely grip-of-death proof.

It's quite the trick Apple pulled, I remember all radio engineers saying it was impossible to have a metal antenna you could touch without distortion. Well guess what, Apple made it possible after all.

The metal band makes the phone feel really strong, would be a shame imho if they abandon this.

Well let's not forget we will have a lot of iPad 3, HD, Pro rumours coming very soon :)

I'll have my say then let allow the thread to die as no-one hopefully really pays attention to analysts stating the blindingly obvious and/or stupidity in order to justify their own job titles
Speaking of which an example of analyst speak pulled from the article... Apple will inevitably already be working on the next model, even before the 4S announcement. Every manufacturer do the same. When you buy a car you know that it has depreciated as soon as you leave the forecourt and in 12, 18 or 24 months the manufacturer will release an updated model. Hell, fashion changes four times a year. Imagine the hurt if you are prone to spending large sums on your wardrobe and must be keeping up with trends! They say the next model is coming and will be "better" like it is controversial

Apple have obviously done their market research as to what consumers would accept for the next release going by initial press reports of 4S sales. Maybe analysts should be concentrating on more important world issues!

The problem with the rumourers is that invariably, 99% of the time they are wrong. I don't know how they do it, but Apple have always been very good at keeping their plans and designs close to their chest and leak free (bar the "left the iphone 4 prototype in a bar" fiasco)

I mean just look at the 4S launch - all week leading up to it the news reports were saying "bigger screen, thinner design, better camera" and that it's the iPhone 5. Some were saying it's the iPhone Mini. So one guess was right - it does have a better camera.

And thats all it usually is - guesses.

not the only one: The Shadowy World of iPhone Cases - Businessweek

Just shows all the case manufacturers are fumbling in the dark and taking wild guesses like the so called analysts.

That's the stupidest thing I have ever seen. If your going to fake something at least make sure the colour is right. Surely it should Silver Alu with White Polycarbonate controls and Black Glass hob?

If Apple do decide to make the screen larger I hope they stick with say the next size up. Anything more than that and it ceases to be a phone.

What would be nice is if they extended airplay/mirroring. With the moves that Mountain Lion is making, have ML integrated on the iPhone, such that it becomes say your MacBook when mated with a screen/keyboard/mouse. A bit like what Ubuntu is doing with Android except they can leave the wires. Oh and use that Pico company they bought to have the built-in projection capability.

Oh no, not the PICO projector rumour again! :p :D

Although the fact the Samsung Beam has been revealed means we possibly could see in-built PICO projector

Apart from wanting a 4" screen and better speakers, I'd also like a curvier shape (more comfortable to hold). I'd be happy if they changed the glass body to something less slippery and brittle.

It's daft to me that I own a lovely sleek iPhone, but I have to increase the bulk by wrapping it in a cover or case because I fear even a 3 foot drop could crack it.

Glass offers a premium feel, but to be honest it's not very practical.

4" would be tidy, but certainly no bigger. Just get yourself a tidy bumper and you have the best of both worlds now. I have had a Griffin bumper on my 4S since release day and dropped it numerous times and not a mark on it. The bumper is absorbing the drop and making sure that the glass cannot hit the ground however it lands.

I get to enjoy the glass finish, the look and colour of it, and still feel safe that its protected.

You can indeed, using the same App that warmed your hands up on cold days by artificially maxing out the CPU. ;-)

I don't see it personally. Still think October from here on in. Why change it now expectations are for a minimum 12 months in the life cycle. Releases are becoming longer rather than shorter if anything tbh.

I can't see why they'd cut the 4S life short, no reason to

Yeah I can't imagine them pushing the 4s down the rankings so quick. Unless they keep the 4 as a budget phone, 4s as mid tier then the 5 as the one you want??

I'm stuck in contract for while yet so I'll wait. The mrs is due an upgrade around October however so I'm sure her new phone will be the "new iPhone"

I am sure after the 4s it will be a properly new phone this time. I may have to donate the mrs my unlocked 4s and a weeks cleaning for her new phone
