I never really topped up my phone at all, and never really used a mobile phone much. But since most of my mobile phones are passed on to me from my mates or my family is a reason.

But I need to find out my mobile phone number, i use a Panasonic VS2 and my mobile phone service is Vodafone.

85p should be enough to call a landline

some phones tell you the number when you start up and others have an option under phonebook called 'my number' or something similar

phone another mobile and don't answer on the other mobile, number will show up on the other mobile and you won't be charged anything as call wasn't answered

Mobile phones start with 07.... and are 11 digits long. Start with 07000000000 and increment by one until your phone rings.

That's alright for an older phone, but if it is relatively new it would be quicker to start at 07999999999 and work backwards.
