I'm hoping someone can help me with this.

I gave my FiL my old o2 3GS at Christmas & O2 agreed to transfer his ancient but excellent data tariff across and sent him an email showing what to change to make data & MMS work on a the non iPhone tariff.

We did it & it worked a treat with both iMessage & MMS until the 5.1 update.

O2 are saying that the update has corrupted the phone as MMS will not now work although iMessage is fine. All the settings have been checked & their fine.

Any suggestions? O2 said to reinstall 5.1 but I don't think this can be done......????

    Thanks in advance,

    Simon

It's worth trying a reload of 5.1, if this doesn't work you could possibly down grade if you were to jailbreak the phone first

Yes you can restore ios 5.1 again.

Plug your phone into itunes (Back up your data) click on restore and it should be reinstalling ios 5.1 software again on the phone.

If this does not work you can put it into DFU mode by following:

    1. Press power button to turn phone off
    2. Press Home button (Keep it held) and press home button for around 10 seconds.
    3. Let go of power button and keep hold of home button

Once iTunes have identified your device is in DFU mode you can click on restore and it will (re)install IOS Version 5.1 again onto your device.

Aside from the messaging, check that you are not being billed for data usage. o2 let their iPhone traffic go through a specific apn. You might get charged for internet depending on how you configured the internet settings, even though you have unlimited data et al.

I owned a htc and I used to get charged if I went through the mobile apn but not the wap.o2 apn for example.
