I think everyone is well aware now of a certain scene in a certain recent blockbuster that stretched the suspension of disbelief so far that it snapped.

"Nuked The Fridge" has quickly become common parlance on the internet for moments in films that were so absurd that the whole audience let out a collective groan.

    http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=nuke the fridge

The phrase is the movie equivalent of TV's "Jumped The Shark" which was coined after one of the last episodes of Happy Days showed Fonzie waterskiing with his leather jacket on and literally jumping over a threatening shark.

Check it out. Very stupid indeed:

So, anyone got some suggestions for moments of absurdity (in a bad way) in movies.

How about Escape From LA. Snake Plissken surfing alongside a speeding car with Peter Fonda? John Carpenter really "nuked the fridge" with that one.

The first thing that comes to mind for me is when I tried to sit down and watch Ultraviolet perhaps because Milla Jovovich was in it. I got as far as the gravity defying motorbike riding upside the skyscraper scene but then I'm afraid I had to switch off lol.

Funny, but I find the first two Utube videos to be acceptable action sequences.

I think that the flying fights of Matrix Revolution were nuking the fridge.

That fight scene was fought within the realms of a computer program where anything is possible. Not the same thing.

Yep. Defo agree. Not forgetting the worst jet pilot in history. He managed to destroy the entire freeway but couldn't hit a ruddy great truck.:confused::confused:

Not exactly. Earth is supposed to be a computer program, and you have to escape from your own programming to achieve flying, but at the same time, you could shoot flames out from your hands, or turn yourself into a nuclear bomb, but there had to be a point where the director said that it would be going too far, and so, the flying fight can also said to be going too far.

Granted sir! The Giant spider was producer Jon Peters idea. He originally wanted to have Superman fighting a giant spider in the film that eventually became Superman Returns. He also wanted Superman to not only NOT wear the infamous costume but he didn't want him to be able to fly either.

Watch below for the whole hilarious story as told by Kevin Smith.

Trust me. This clip is one of the funniest true Hollywood stories I've ever heard.

Jon Peters really knows how to nuke a fridge. Big style.

    :D

Please note that the above video features strong language.

    Sorry mods.

That's the funniest story about film I've ever seen, and also worrying that there are people who have power over the writers, that have no idea what they are doing.

Dunno whether to laugh or cry that a deranged former hairdresser has that much power to virtually ruin such a huge franchise

Another ridiculous scene i remember from that movie was the ott car chase when Bond is driving a car that puts KITT to shame

All good suggestions. Keep 'em coming. How about Ocean's 12? Steven Soderbergh dropped a 1000 megaton nuke when he had Julia Roberts' character pretending to be Julia Roberts.

    Rubbish. :thumbsdow

That is my personal worst thing i've ever seen in a film ever, ever.

Nearly made me walk out of the cinema.

Nothing i've seen in a film since has matched the sheer "WHAT????" moment than that scene had and i doubt nothing will.

I think you could really make curving bullets being as baseballs can curve. Even light can curve.
