    Hi all, confused noob here

OK, what I need to do is transfer a programme from my foxsat to my pc. As far as I can tell, everything is in place (CF4.1.4, TinyFTP, WebIF), but for the life of me I can't tell where to start. For a start, although it says TinyFTP is installed, I can't find it anywhere!
I also have Filezilla installed, but I don't know how to point it towards my FoxBox. The problem may be (surprise surprise) is that I don't know how to use FTP programs.
Please help, someone, and in plain English if possible!

    TIA
    Ian

Look in the menus for the Foxbox to find its network address -something like 192.168.1.4.
In Filezilla that's the host, then you need the username and password.

Install Samba on the HDR then open \\Foxsat-HDR in explorer, much easier and you can map it to a drive letter if wanted.

OK, just tried transfering some files - all of them failed! Isn't this just a case of drag and drop or is it much more complicated than that?

    Edit - using Filezilla

You'd need to use Windows Explorer nothing to do with web browsers...

Oooh by the way, now that CF is in place, can I now get HiDef programmes off my Foxbox on to a USB drive and then edit on my PC (take out ads etc)?

He means Windows Explorer not Internet Explorer. You map the drive so it appears as a hard disc on your PC like say C: , just by clicking Start then Explore.

    eg

How to connect and disconnect a network drive in Windows XP

Click My Computer then type in the address box ftp:// and the 192 etc from before.
But Filezilla wouldn't let you d-and-d?

I guess it depends on which files you were trying for - some will be d-and-d-able, others not.

All the files should be copyable using ftp (by drag and drop), no point in copying them all. The only ones worth copying are the transport stream files (.ts). The other files associated with a recording (.nts .hmt and .tac) will mean nothing to a PC.

No point in copying HD recordings either unless recorded without encryption.
