Pics of my collection...... so far :D
Gillette Super Speed, 1958. Bought from SIRUSKEY. My everyday razor. Its a joy to use, looks fantastic, not too fancy. Great bit of engineering on this TTO (twist to open). Really love it.

Gillette open comb tech. Again bought from SIRUSKEY. This has a couple of cracks in the handle, so I am going to part it off in my lathe, chemical black the knurled section and turn it into a little travel razor.

Then a Gillette aluminium tech. Bought from ebay and just needed a few mins polishing and its now nearly like new.

Currently have a synthetic brush but am on the look out for a nice badger. And also I have stacks of blades, again all supplied by SIRUSKEY.

Anyone thinking about starting wet shaving, get hold of one of his sets before you miss out.

I'm now saving up for a flare tip. Maybe an adjustable too, just to try.

Nice colelection lol, I've got a tech on the way to go with my oldstyle ball end. Be sure to check out the Frank shaving brushes. You can get a best badger for about a tenner delivered!

@ balidey, good going. Intent on trying a Merkur HD and then from there not sure. Maybe another Merkur or a Flare Tip. This will all pay for itself anyway

Intriguing Hitby. Found this thread: Frank shaving brushes

If it is just a tenner then it is low risk? Cheap enough to buy blind and see how it goes. What is this about wooden v plastic handle though?

Not sure I'd be happy buying a badger shaving brush from China. I'm not a liberal lefty, and I am happy using animal hair for a brush, but having seen the shocking way animals (and humans) are treated in China I think I would rather pay more on a brush with hopefully a more known history.

Also I work in the UK engineering industry and have seen the very unhealthy decline in this country of my passion. Our industry is dying. And the one country to blame apart from our own is.... China. When buying parts at work I have the option of cheap crap from China, or slightly more expensive parts that are actually better. You do get what you pay for.

Sorry, rant nearly over, its one of those subjects that gets me going. The sooner we stop the rise of the Far East the better. IMHO.

Edit to add: Happy to be proved wrong about these brushes, they do look nice in the photos. Just... they're from China

Right all you smooth faced men. Something's that need to go on your shopping list are:

1/ Alum block or Styptic pencil

    2/ Distilled witch hazel

3/ Moisturiser (I use e45 which in my opinion is very good)

You will all now know why and will of course have watched all the videos.

Stick it in a pan of boiling water with a little fairy in it. Boil for 20-30 mins and leave to cool. Scrub with an old tooth brush it will get rid of most the gunk.

Use a cheap none gel toothpaste and brush (mild abrasive) to polish it.

Report back when you have :lesson:

Actually, you guys are right, just done a bit of searching and came to the same conclusion, its all Chinese anyway. I'll have to swallow my pride :D.

Looking at those brushes you posted, the price looks good. Infact I like the look of the wooden mug / bowls he has for sale. Would look right at home on my shelf with my razor.

I'm sure its saveable. SIRUSKEY posted some tips further up the thread about mild 'restoring'. But if it has sentimental value and you want it fully restoring then a full strip down and re-plating would make it look brand new.

Make your own. Go and find a fully grown badger and jump on it and pull some fur out ;)

This thread has made me want to dig out my Merkur Futur Brushed Steel Razor and start using it again. Haven't used it in quite a few years.

Looking forward to the write up as my Boots special brush isn't great a would like a badger brush.

As for my razors, the Two Gillettes I have one of Which is the Tech I bought from SIRUSKEY is great but the longer handled adjustable with black handle is a bit heavier and after one shave does seem a step up from the Tech, not sure if it's my technique or the razors or even the blades. I'm using Shark S/S in both.

3 shaves with the Tech and 1 with the Adjustable.
I'm not a shave everyday man, used to be a good thing but now I find shaving pleasurable wish I could shave everyday. :)

*sigh* So can you buy scented witch hazel on the high street/supermarché before ordering online?

Also wanting to try Castle Forbes shaving cream but the smallest pots are £10 a pop on Amazon
