I saw the trailer a couple of months before I saw Drive and my memory just isn't good enough for me to retain the entire thing or which sequence the shots were in, so it was't spoilt for me. If I can help it I don't watch trailers more than once, so they don't sink in.

I noticed the UK release is locked to region B, the US release is region A-locked. Awkward !

Not if you've got two players, one for each region. :D

I wanted to get this online at HMV as they have the steelbook for £11.99 but you can't use the your money of vouchers(PureHMV) online.

Thats the other thing why cant there website be like argos and pc world where you can check store stock or reserve online and collect in store, as I would still pay £15 as I can use my £10 voucher and have it for a £5 but my nearest store is 20 miles away and dont want to waste fuel

I'd have gladly picked one up for you, but there was none left yesterday.

Pure HMV credit does have a 6 month expiry llimit - just remember each credit must be spent in one go, you can't part use it by buying something for £5 with a £10 credit for example.

Anyone thinks Perlman over acts the "Now thats one fine a## p### Mobile" bit? just seems way out of character when he delivers that line.

He's the weak link in the cast IMO, he's just as bad in the scene where he complains about being teased for being Jewish.

I love that bit. It's cringeworthy, but that's the point. Nino may think he's a big time player, when in fact he's just an idiot.

My US version has arrived, will watch it when I get the chance.

^ Exactly that. He is supposed to be OTT because he is playing a part to convince himself and others of his importance.

Pick it up today from HMV, I managed to get them to send a steelie with a stock shipment from another store to a more local store to me, took alot of nice talking. Only problem with it is a tiny bit of paint missing/scratch on top, right, front corner and the other thing is the glue that hold's the metal spine has come a drift at the top as when you look from the inside it looks like they have applied less at the top to the bottom. but if it comes of Ill re glue it but don't want to try and take it off in case it bends or snaps.
According to the people I spoke to on the phone at the various store's the reason many don't have them is that they have recalled the left over stock, which makes no sense to me.

Off to the Steelbook ghetto with you, where all the other OCD cases hang out to whine about "tiny scratches" on cheap tin packaging.

I like a mattress, it's better than a floor:), either way I've got the steelbook and if the super duper/directors/more expensive/whatever version turns up I will get that and sell the steelbook version.

Have you had a chance to give the US disc a look Geoff?

I'm toying with the idea of selling my UK disc to a mate and going for the US one.

picked this up the other night, watched and I loved it.

wasn't what I expected. Gosling plays the part so well.

I am pleased to report that the US disc is free of the unsightly artefacts seen in the UK version. The UK one, to me, has always looked a little unstable in terms of the encoding, like it could break out into blocking or banding at any moment. It doesn't do it all the time of course, but the moments that it does break down caught my eye and once I've seen that stuff, I can't "un-see" it. The US version seems that much more cohesive and stable, and looks ever so slightly sharper too.

Well worth getting hold of, if ye can play Region A platters.

rebel_scum aka Sir Roger - where did you get the pink box version of Drive from?

It looks pretty cool and has a bit of a Miami Vice / GTA Vice City vibe about it!

Not seen the film yet and was thinking of picking it up but don't often do blind buys on Blu as prefer to collect my favourites or nostalgic stuff.

You need to find a cheap copy of the original release of Valentine's Day. Be warned, it has since been re-released in a standard case. Bridesmaids also had a pink case, but that was more of the bubblegum pink variety.

What unsightly artefacts do you mean? The UK one looked nigh on perfect to me.

What are you watching it on. A Microscope? :)

Geoff_D isn't the only person to have commented unfavourably on the UK release, it's good to have that sort of critical attention (to keep the studios up to the mark) even if the disc will look very good to most of those who buy the UK disc.

I agree, I'm just interested in what they are seeing that I didn't- and how much of that is to do with the display. I imagine for example that a projector would uncover 'problems' that wouldn't trouble a common-or-garden panel like mine.

I'm not as tech-savvy as some of the guys on this forum and frankly wouldn't know an unstable banded artefact if it was biting me on the arse (Im on the fence wether thats a good thing or not ;)).

Might be best not to know - it might be staring us in the face but if it's not pointed out we could remain blissfully innocent of it :)
