Brilliant, managed to hack a Panasonic DMP-BDT110 with my harmony 1100, thanks op!
Thx! This worked perfectly on my BDP-S370 (Region 2) using my Harmony 555. Now i can watch my region 1 dvd's again.
Question. Does a FW-update on the BR-player undo the regionfree-hack? If so can it be applied again?
Firmware updates so far have not affected the hack, anything could happen in the future with new updates though. Worst case we would update our players, this could remove the hack and the hack remote codes would no longer work. Though this hasn't happened yet.
Thanks! Also works for BDV-E880 using a Harmony One.
Has anyone setup their harmony one for this, using a new harmony account, that they'd care to share?
thanks to the original poster, works like a charm using my harmony 885 and my sony bdps185 and bdps360
The codes have changed on the Sx80 series released in 2011 and there are already fixes for people who use One-For-All remotes. Is there any possibility to adapt the codes for the newer generations?
Thank you SO much to the original poster, worked a treat - although have to say that the final sending of codes to the Blu Ray was remarkably anti-climactic! (Not sure what I was expecting, fireworks or something?!)
Anyway, I've now setup an account with the hack activity all set, that I'll probably never use again. If anyone wants the username for it, PM me.
cant send you a pm because your incomming folder is full
if you or anyone else have a account with a working hack i would like to give it a try with my harmony 700 and sony bdp-s185.
I don't know why, it only had ten messages in it and is supposed to hold up to seventy! I'll pm you the login...
If you still have your account, I am interested!
Worked on Sony BDV-E780W (UK PAL) Home theatre system with Harmony ONE - Thanks Gertsen!
This region free hack also worked with my Sony BDP-S185 using the Logitech Harmony 785.
Tips for beginners,
- If the logitech website asks you for a software update, just ignore it. If you think you're running the latest software, you are!
- When you've added "Hack 1" and you go to add "Hack 2", you will most probably get an error. I assume this is because the Logitech web software doesn't recognise you're on the next device (ie. DVD2 rather than DVD). If I pressed "back" (or reloaded the original page listed in the first post), it remembered "Hack 1" but wouldn't give me the error.
Does anyone know if this hack is a one-shot, or does it need to be re-done each time? I don't have any foreign media to test it with, as i'm doing the hack for someone else - and I don't have ready access to their media either.
So far the hack has been permanent, anything could happen in the future with firmware updates etc
The only way of knowing it has worked without an appropriate disc is the blue flashing light you get at the end
I will avoid firmware update
Thanks to everyone for this great post. It's one of the harder software hacks i've done to a COTS piece of hardware
This hack also works on a Sony BDP-S390
also worked with a sony BDP-S480 and Harmony One remote
Thanks to the original poster, very clear instructions
I am trying to get this to work with my Panny DMP-BD45 and a Harmony 600.
Anyone know a way that I can add the 10 different codes for the Panny when I only have space for 5 devices?
Worked perfectly on a Harmony 525 and an R2 Sony BDP-S780 - good work !
From what I've read it seems the same procedure works for numerous Sony players. Will it also work with a BDP-S590 (region 2)?
And do I need that specific Logitech remote control or will just about any universal remote on the market do? I haven't bought any such remote yet though.
As I understood this approach should also work for a Pioneer BDP-140 as this is similar to the ones listed.
Now I just bought a Pioneer BDP-150. I think this is not so much different from the BDP-140 either. So my question would this also work for my player?
Also works for a Sony BDP-S390. Region free!
Just to say thanks to gertsen
I was contemplating buying an Oppo 93 for region free DVD playback. No need to now. Used my Harmony as per instructions and it works on my Sony 570 with latest firmware.
There is one little thing though, when I play a DVD from USA the sound defaults to Stereo through my system (Marantz SR 5006) and yet all the Blus play DD or DTS and the Region 2 DVD's also decode the correct sound format, is this a known issue with the hack ?
TBH its no big deal since I can just switch the amp to DD, was just wondering if it was something I have done wrong.
Old-ish thread I know, but I wanted to say thanks to Gertsen - his outlined hack worked a treat on my Sony BDP-S480 today . Less than 1/2 an hour to sort out making the BDP-S480 region free with the codes and a Harmony 525.
Been meaning to get round to doing this since I bought the player a year ago!
Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year!
Do you get DD from the discs or stereo like me.
Does anyone know if there is a way to make the bdp-s360 region free for bluray disks?
I get all the audio formats on the discs on mine
Multi region bluray would require a hardware mod if available.
Hi. I have a Panasonic DMP-BD77. It requires 10 codes to perform the hack. I have a Harmony 700 remote. It is limited to 5 devices so I can't use Gersten's method. Every time I try Iserlohn's method it only keeps the last code I entered all the previous ones are lost.
Does anyone know a way around this?
This worked with my Sony BDPS590!! Fantastic!!
Some years ago I make my BDP-S350 work, but I couldn´t make my S590, how did you did it?
