better than the original?, it's a good cover granted, but better than the original??
Mr Tambourine Man - The Byrds
All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix
Sorry Mr Dylan!
I actually thought the bear mccreary version of 'all along the watchtower' (from the battlestar gallactica tv series) was the best version that i've heard.
Must check that out.
Thought of another one........
Your Mamma Don't Dance - Poison
Gotta love the hair metal!
how soon is now t.A.T.u original by the smiths
I always think that any cover of any Dylan song is better than the original as we don't have to listen to Dylan trying to sing
I always loved Bauhaus doing Ziggy (I feel I'm opening a can of worms here....)
i just listened to the original version of make you feel my love and wondered what made someone cover it
Happy Monday's step on
Soft cell tainted love
Both great covers often mistaken as the original
Carter USM - Rent:
‪Carter USM - Rent (1990)‬‏ - YouTube
Love this as well.
The Clash - I Fought The Law
Most would prefer Madness's version of It Must Be Love though I prefer the original.
Stereophonics - Handbags & Gladrags
The Bangles - Hazy Shade Of Winter
Robbie Williams - She's The One
that is a brilliant cover, not sure it's better than the original tho
carter did quite a few covers, and i have tickets to see them in november
James (D-Train) Williams - The Shadow Of Your Smile - YouTube
China Drum - Wuthering Heights
Guns 'n Roses - Live and Let Die.
The original sounds too tame. The cover has the urgency and agression the song needs.
Judas Priest - The Green Manalishi (With The Two Prong Crown)
Not better than the orginal, but totally different. both this and the Peter Green original rock big time
Def agree with Live & Let Die, haven't heard that version of Fleetwood mac before, agree with your comments
Route 66 - Johnny Winter
(haven't we had this thread before - i'm sure this is the second time i've mentioned this.)
Yes, totally agree with this. That is an awesome cover that makes the original sound lame.
Medium Rare (Foo Fighters album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
when i saw q was giving it away i presumed it had a wider release, but looks not
it's basically a compilation of rare covers from various b sides and stuff
i have the q cd and it misses off the darling nikki by price that's on the 12"
i have both
Stevie Wonder doing The Beatles anyone.....love this version and is as close as any Beatles cover I have heard that comes close to surpassing the original (save from the Joe Cocker one mentioned earlier).

i'm sure it will have something to do with prince blocking it. he hates people covering his songs and had a go at dave for covering it. then he covered the foo fighters at the superbowl. he hates other people covering him but covers other peoples stuff a lot in his own gigs, but see's no irony in it. he doesn't care too much about the songs he gave away to other people, so it's not so bad if you cover manic monday or nothing compares 2 u as he never released his own versions, but cover kiss or purple rain and he's not going to like it
just a few weeks ago prince invited dave to jam with him in LA, and he did, but he never got to guest onstage at the main show as prince got hot female celebs on stage typically instead. he has a habit of mucking people about by inviting them over and then not letting them play. daves schedule didn't allow him to come back for another night. he was raving about getting to play with prince as he's such a big fan (so is duff from GnR). you could tell by him covering drive me wild by vanity 6 (she was replaced by appolonia in purple rain). he had no idea prince was going to cover best of you at the superbowl so couldn't believe it when he did, especially after prince openly critized him for darling nikki. just imagine watching such a big event and seeing your guitar hero cover your own song for 100 million people on live telly. prince has a habit of playing obscure and surprising cover versions just to show off to people that he knows all sorts or music and surprise people
Dionne Warwick did it origanaly and is a bit on the pop side, I just heard the one you prefer and that kills it for me the backing is not suited to the lyrics.
A far far beter redition of the song putting soul into what the lyrics are about is by Aretha Franklin.
Aretha Franklin - I say a little prayer (Original, Official song) HQ version, Photos / Photoshoots - YouTube
He also did a great cover the Box Tops, The Letter although I still prefer there's it still extremely good
On cover that splits some die hard soul fans in Marvin Gaye's cover of Gladys Knights I Heard It Though The Grapevine and like the above post a fan of both Miss Warwick and Miss Knight I prefer the cover.
A lot of today's artist to day cover old greats, unfortunately cant sing there way out of a paper bag, and get arranged by arrangers not fit to arrange a **** up in a brewery.
I'd blame Radio 1's Live Lounge for a lot of this current trend
sonic youth's version of superstar
dave matthew's band version of all along the watchtower
travis version of hit me baby one more time(better than the original for sure.. )
