in the meantime what the government could do is arrange some exchange visit with Argentines and take the trouble of learning the language, which is a fine one. There are many parts of the country they could visit as well maybe meet some Anglos .If they are flush they could even send their kids to the several schools founded by British expats. In time i feel sure they would get used to living under another flag and if not them their great grand children.:smashin:

And you still miss the fact that the Falkland Islanders DON’T want to live under another flag!!

Why can’t you respect their wish?

at the time Argentina was ruled by tyrant named peron who was known to be a bit of Nazi sympathiser.Tens of thousands of Germans migrated to Argentina but only a very small minority were Nazis. There is a very good oktoberfest each year there

where did i say i hated them???:confused:quite the reverse I am actually thinking it would be very much in their interests to seek an accomodation with the Argies like the one I suggested. Its a just a matter of building bridges. There are many British expats living in Argentina with who then could stay and get used to the idea of being amongst Argies who are actually a very generous people

The Falkland Islanders want to be British, maybe you need to visit and explain your views. I'd bet money you wouldn't be leaving in one piece

Ah yes, the good old ethnic cleansing rant from LGS.:suicide:

No true lefty would even think such a thing, let alone suggest it on a public forum. :nono:

Sometimes, LGS, I wonder what planet you are on.

The main reason that Germany and Japan are the industrial giants they are today is that they were supported and developed as bulwarks against soviet expansionism post ww2. Without the Korean war Japan would have taken much longer to recover, without East Germany being next door West Germany would not have had so much western money pumped into it to demonstrate the superiority of the capitalist system against the soviet one. We, on the other hand, being the previous global hegemonic power were allowed to atrophy at the expense of the new kid on the block. We were given uncle Sams H bomb technology by way of a consolation prize - and a second line of defence should the Volkswagen factories ( incidentally a product of a British military intervention) fail and a jam of Trabants drive across checkpoint charlie to occupy west Berlin..!!!

Japan and Germany don't live on past imperial glory because their empire failed very quickly and left no legacy at all - the fingerprints of the British Empire exist right across the planet and persist to this day. Drinking bitter and tea on a god forsaken, windswept rock in the Antarctic circle being one of them..!!!!

Is Argentina actually interested in persuading the Falklands populace that life under them would be better? What are they doing to promote this policy at present?

the reason i mentioned you are losing your marbles is because since that time, there have been several changes of regime some of which did have dodgy records like the Junta, for example, when over 4 k people disappeared, but for the last 30 years they have had a democracy and only a madman would suggest that any of the regimes during that time were Nazi in anyway shape or form. You might as well say Germany is still full of Nazis .
You clearly are a DM reader being as you parrot precisely the kind of **** that paper does

Wow, a democracy for the last 30 years  As long as that ? :D
Kinda puts the UK's record to shame. Not.

You are still advocating ethnic cleansing. You can dress it up in different terms and use daft smilies but the long and the short of it is that you cannot abide the idea that beyond the accusations of bellicosity toward the UK, the people actually living on the Falklands aren't interested in becoming part of Argentina.

I still think they'd have a shot at independence in the event of oil being found in meaningful quantities.

If I am not mistaken ethnic cleansing involves the forceful removal of a whole group of people based on their ethnicity.I dont think i ever advocated that, just the possibility of living under another flag. If thats not to their liking there i always voluntary repatriation.

And what if they refuse to be "repatriated?" It is their home.
