Hi all,

I've decided that from the numerous postings and questions of 'which 37 inch to buy?' (including from myself), that I'd create a thread specifically dedicated to just this. There are so many different options available for the 2008 37" ranges, which I'm sure must put some people off looking into each model as the task just seems so daunting, that I have listed every model in this size range below, and will continually update it with prices, reviews, user impressions and images.

I realise that for some of the 2008 sets there is currently little info, and even fewer actual user-impressions, though I have two reasons for creating this thread now rather than later:

Firstly, I'm sure that people (including myself), will be able to make a much more educated decision on which model will truly be the best for them when they make a purchase, if info on each set has been avaialble few months, and updated regularly (rather than a quick 'which is best' question). Primarily though, I just like to know what's going on in the world of AV :).

You can find a list of models below, with 1080P ones on this post, and other notable models on the 2nd post - These lists will be updated when new info comes in, including prices, confirmed release dates etc. I have included non-1080P sets, as although they do not particularly interest me, other people with different needs for TVs may find it useful.

I will update this post with new models from each manufacturer, and details on what exactly the specs are, when info is posted. When I have a few models listed, I'll try to begin to put them in some kind of order, either for quality/price etc. All help is very much appreciated!

No 37inch 1080P sets for the UK. The following model is one coming out in the US, though I've added it here just to reiterate how much Sony must dislike us for living on the wrong side of the pond, by not giving us what looks to be the best set for this size range this year.

Thanks for that. I'll add those two to the second post (with a changed link - the second new model one was for the 32 inch). Hopefully will end up with a comprehensive list of all new 1080P models from each manufacturer, and the benefits of the upgraded model eventually

Thanks again, hopefully this thread will continuously be added to over time :)

Btw... any ideas of when the model will be released? Sorry for all the question, I will look up myself for an answer tomorrow if there's no reply, just thought I may aswell ask to save me the trouble if someone knows :)

I've researched a few different manufacturers' 37" 1080P sets now, and have added them to the second post. Any mistakes/additions are very much appreciated .

Btw, if anyone with the power to do so is reading, could you please change the thread title to something along the lines of '37 inch 2008 sets info + pricing', as it seems to be fading away from the original 'best sets for gaming' thread. Cheers :)

Ok, I've pretty much finished (in my mind anyway) doing all that I can at the moment to this thread. I've added all the models I could find, and included images to each set I could find them for. It's taken me quite a while, so I'd really appreciate any comments regarding it, i.e. any models I've missed, either info on, or seperate ones entirely. Also, any release dates/prices for the listed models would really be appreciated :)

Again, I'll continue to update the thread as time passes, though any help from other users would really be very helpful

Cheers,

SafeRat

Great thread SR. Particularly useful for those scratching around the 37" market!

Maybe overtime, you could include some reviews as they become available?

Price comparisons would be nice too - but probably unrealistic as they can change on a daily basis.

Isn't the Toshiba XV an upgrade of last years X series model? Wouldn't it be a better comparison to compare the X & XV, rather than the XV & Z? As the Z is their top end model, and the X/XV a mide-range set.

Have book-marked this thread. Cheers!

P.s - SONY - where's your 37" upgrade!?!?!

Thanks for your response -Was beginning to think I was the only person interested in 37 inch models!

Currently I'm unaware of any reviews for the sets (though I think I've seen something on one of the Panasonics somewhere), but when I find them, or some kind person links to them, I'll be sure to add them promptly, along with prices etc

As for the Toshiba models - I'll attempt to fix that sometime soon, as I can see that it's not particularly clear atm as to how much of an up/downgrade it is, so comparing it the X series should clear that up.

Cheers :)

I *think* some of those may be plasma, though I apolgise if I'm not correct there :suicide:.

Cheers

None of them are plasma so no worries about burn-ins. They are all very much LCD sets

Cool thread, Would be cool if you could add bigger screens so then it would include the sony's

Cool thread, Would be cool if you could add bigger screens so then it would include the sony's

I was thinking about adding larger sets to the list, but I think doing so would make the thread too large/complex, so it would be a lot harder for someone to choose the best set for them. I suppose I could make a different thread for a different size, but atm I'm focusing primarily on 37" sets

Thanks for the reply. Are they all definately 1080P LCDs though? Has to be LCD as problems with extensive gaming sessions and burn-in, and I *think* some of those may be plasma, though I apolgise if I'm not correct there :suicide:.

Cheers

everyone is an 1080p lcd

everyone is an 1080p lcd

I've now removed that original post (before I developed the thread by posting info/pics myself), as I'm now aware that they were. Cheers anyway though.

Right, I've made a few changes to the thread now, and had a go at correcting the Toshiba section - I've now included 3 models (two 2007's, and the one new 2008 one). Hopefully it's relatively easy to understand.

I've also added another list of non-1080P 37" sets, for anyone interested. Prices/reviews and some pictures are missing, so if anyone has anything that would be useful to add, then please post it

As always any feedback is appreciated, as I've put quite a lot of time into creating and editing the thread :)

Great stuff SR!

Just to cloud the issue - the new Toshibas (XV) will be coming in two model variants - the XV503 & the XV505. Both are technically the same - there are just cosmetically different. (See here for some small piccies if you want to add them to your thread).

Also, play.com have the 37" listed for £599 - which is a cracking price for a new 1080p set! Link here

Thanks for that Mickus, i've added it to the thread  Any other comments from peeps are great

I've also added a 'credit' section at the bottom, to anyone who's helped with the list :smashin:

Nice one. :smashin:

Did you approach the mods to change the thread title to something a bit more generic like 'New 2008 37" 1080P models' - or something equally as catching..?

*Edit*

Also, here's another link for the 37XV503 - £629 - http://www.flatdeal.com/shop/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=29&products_id=2128. Got a nice picture of the set on there too!

No I haven't approached anyone, only the lil comment right down somewhere on the first page - doubt it will be particulary effective, though I've no idea what else I can do.

Thanks also for that link, and your continued help on this thread! :D

Hi,

I am after a 37 inch telly for MCE use, ps3, wii, blu-ray/DVD use.

Im wanting at least 3 x HDMI 1.3 ports & 1080p

Also whats this 24p thing people keep talking about? I dont understand what that is?

ATM im looking atToshiba Regza 37" 37XV503DB 1080p or Samsung 37" LE37M87BDX/XEU HD 1080p.

Do they both have all the trimings for that price range?

What is the best telly for sub £650?

Hope you can help

Thanks Mickus, though I already have the 37XV503 listed on the front page for £599 from Play.com . Cheers anyway though :)
I just saw that amazon have it for 599 too now. Of course play is still cheaper if you have the 5% voucher and quidco but if you don't then amazon would be another place to get it and they seem to have it in stock now instead of waiting 2-3 weeks.

Personally I got it from play the price difference was enough to make me wait a few more weeks.
