Portsmouth central exchange is now BT Infinity live :D Installations began last Monday.

Apparently only a couple of cabinets are ready to go, mine being one of them ! Was connected last Friday and was only the second house connected to local FTTC cabinet :smashin: Went from a punk 1Mb to lightning fast 40Mb  (though speedtest.net says 64Mb/s download).

My exchange was enabled on 30th Sept according to the Infinity site but I still cant order. How long does the roll out to the cabinets usually take?

Does anyone know when villages outside of major towns will be getting BT Infinity?

I'm 7 miles south of Cambridge, which is getting it in September next year, apparently.

I've read about two-thirds of the population being connected by 2015.

You might well be the one third who won't get it but BT has said some rural area's will get it. I guess most of the have not's will be in the lower population area's

My exchange now pushed back to June 2011 :(

Looking on the bright side however they may use the time to decide to do more FTTP in my area.......

    Gutted. :(

Checked yesterday and went from December 2010 to March 2011.

Spent the last 2 weeks seeing all the cabinets etc being sorted as well.

    900kb for a bit longer then... :(

Only 4 exchanges, including mine are now listed as December 31st. BETTER NOT delay it untill March, that'll be 6 MONTHS later than the September launch date.

This is annoying because I live in a village between 2 towns, one of which says "31st of december 2010" and I haven't received a letter yet saying its available in my area, and the other one isn't even ON the list. Looks like I'll have to keep up with 0.45mbp/s for another while then :suicide:

It seems to be only the small exchanges getting it in the North West, where I live we are connected to the Southport exchange, no roll out date set, yet the Birkdale exchange (which serves about a quarter of which the Southport one does) has a roll out date!

What is even worse is that looking on maps, my house is roughly in-between both exchanges, if anything I'm slightly closer to the Birkdale one!

Always go for a morning appointment, as if the engineer is running late and you are the last job of the day you might not get a visit.

Many of the published dates are just holding date like December 31st (year end) and March 31st (financial year) so people here should remember that they are aspirational dates that are not set in stone.

This may be of use for anyone wanting to go fibre.

I don't think it's been posted yet. If it has, I apologise.

I get this from above link:
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed between 29.2 to 33 Mbps and upstream line speed between 6.4 to 7.8 Mbps.

But on BT Infinity Checker I get this:
BT Infinity, when you can get it, 31-March-2011

Um, yes but no but yes but no?

Ring them up and tell them you've found a BT checker which says ... [quote it] ... and see what they say.

I've just got Infinity installed and yeah, they quoted around 25meg but once up and running, speed tests show I'm getting around 38meg too. So, I believe BT are being cautious about speeds so likely people will get more once installed.

BT Infinity rollout - fact or fiction?
I was originally told the availability date in our area would be 31st December 2010, then 31st March 2011 and today 30th June 2011. Does it really exist?
