Yes for about 15 years mainly in VFX but I'm about to move into film production.

Come on guys, you should be used to Pincho's rampant Narcissism by now (just see the Pincho Paxton thread). It really is best just to ignore him when he goes on one of his rants.

Just caught the tail end of a piece on the news saying that this has now been officially cancelled due to financial issues within MGM....

Hmmm ok, I didn't realise that.

I knew there had been discussion about Bond 23 & MGM being in trouble, but I didn't realise the cancellation had already been officially announced.

    Hmm.

MGM broke, surely though someone will buy up the Bond IP?

I thought Sony had rights, but perhaps they only had the distribution rights...?

Sam Mendes & Craig will wait till MGM can get the finances sorted. Deadline is saying Bond is staying with MGM, and development will resume once MGM is viable again.

007 has saved the world many times, but can he save MGM?

This is a mess, surely its financially worse to NOT make another bond movie? Whats the score with Sony? Can't the swoop in and take over given that MGM are technically dead?

They are asking to much for it. Sony and Warner bros are interested but not until the price is right.

but at this point, aren't MGM in a bad position contractually? I thought they were in partnership with sony as far as bond goes. Dont they have to do something with it by law in order to keep the rights? The situation they are in now, given they have cancelled the movie must mean that any partner, EON/Sony can go elsewhere to get the project back on track?

Maybe they are being totally ripped off? Sony is probably taking advantage of their bad situation, and hoping for an absolute bargain. Maybe they can put Bond into shares, pay for a new movie, and get it right this time?

Bond 23 is back on track!

According to The Wall Street Jounal, Spyglass Entertainment has taken over the MGM management. Warner Brothers came second in the deal.

Does that mean we are going to get the rest of the Bond films on Blu, because that would excite me more than a new film.

Yeeeesss, smarty-pants. But WHERE in the Wall Street Journal?

The only article I can find online is a week old & says it's 'nearing a deal' with Spyglass. Nothing about it actually happening.

That's all I can find as well. Having said that I'm with Todd Tomorrow in that I'd be more interested in more of the old ones coming out on Blu.

So a deal yet to be signed which could still fall through. Also there's no certainty they're going to start making films, this could be a deal to buy the back catalogue.

They've changed much about Bond to make it relevant, the worst thing about Casino Royale was the details - he plays Poker, not Baccarat, drinks gin, drives a Ford and acts like a kid. The character is supposed to be a refined and experienced operator with a number of weaknesses, unfortunately some of them became signatures of the film series. While the Brosnan films were original and ran loose with some of the storylines, anything based on the Bond novels should have an identity.

James Bond 23 maybe due November 2012, then one every two years...

MGM filed for bankruptcy, rejecting Lionsgate's bid for a takeover, Bloomberg says a possibility that MGM is fully commited to shooting James Bond 23 in the next two years, and that it will be ready for release in November of 2012, and releasing a Bond film every second year. Lets hope the first part is true.
