Discussing how his character will differ from Aidan Turner's Mitchell, Molony commented:
He also hinted at Hal's costumes:

    - Andrew Gower will play a vampire named Cutler. Gower most recently appeared in ITV's Monroe as Andrew. He also starred in alongside Lacey Turner (Lia) in Frankenstein's Wedding ‘Live in Leeds'.

Sinead Keenan (Nina) tweeted yesterday to confirm that she wouldn't be returning for Series 4.

can't believe i didn't see this till now. That's quite a shock, she wasn't written out so she's just going to be written out with a line of dialog or something? Or maybe they'll do a web ep like Misfits had..

Why did Nina leave? I will watch but the show will really have to shine to keep me interested. First episode was not the best but I will allow for all the rewrites they probably had to make

Episode 1: Eve of the War - 9/10

Great start to the new series, a host of new characters added to this dark, emotional and humorous episode, a Terminatoresque story line fused with a new mythology.

    Spoilers -
Nina was verbally killed off at the start, in return George went seeking revenge only to die himself omg, i can't believe we lost him so
    early.

Seemed a bit contrived in places -
having a poster of the moon on the wall of a werewolf cage? Said poster makes a "half-werewolf"? Said "half-werewolf" subsequently dies... but just long enough to kill the bad guys and say his goodbyes?

But the good news is there's going to be no more "Tovey Squealing" :D

Also, I'm not sure about Mark Williams as the "good" vampire either.

Mostly, I miss Nina - it's spoilt the show for me :(

    Yes, this was a
clear out the old, bring in the new
episode. I think it may have lost its charm as now its basically a full on
    war with a new 'trinity'

IMO, they should've just done a "Skins" - complete new cast, new stories, etc.

It was only the first episode and probably the hardest as the main cast wanted to leave. Misfits has shown you can continue without the main lead, ok Mitchell was probably not the best character like the others, but i think the same writers can still craft a great drama with some of the new actors and i like them to do something a little different too.

I think the transition from old to new cast is proving to be a bit awkward so far though - IMO, a "clean break" would have been better approach.

I'm going to stick with the new series though (I've stuck with Being Human since the pilot with a totally different Mitchell and Annie) - fingers crossed the next episode might settle things down a bit.

Wasnt a fan of the nina write out , i guess things went really bad if she wouldn't do just 1 ep.

Dent like seeing Tovey out so soon.

Will give it a crack but the new vamp is a yawn fest.

I didn't know Russell Tovey was permanently leaving. There must have been One big bust up. Series 3 ended with the 3 remaining cast getting ready to tackle new challenges. I will not watch it as I don't want to spoil the good memories of the show. I will wait to see what you guys say. When the shark has been jumped its been jumped.

It's a famous saying to indicate when a show has run its course. It comes from the old show 'happy days'. That show was a major hit until around (I think) season 7 or later. Anyway in one episode the fonze was water skiing. A shark appeared and he jumped over it. That's when most critics said they had run out of ideas for the show and forever more when a show has run its course the term jumping the shark is used metaphorically.

That show was in the 60's maybe even 50's so the term has been around for a long time.

Google it. It may even be on YouTube, the actual scene. Type 'happy days, jumping the shark'.

Ok. Maybe bh hasn't jumped the shark yet but the half man half werewolf zombie George was getting real close...

Let me know what you think when you see the clip.

It's a fantasy drama, there are no hard rules, i have never seen a werewolf, let alone a half man half werewolf zombie, so anything is possible, let's say the cries of the child were enough to cause him so much distress he was able to push his body mentally and physically and create a ..
    fatal
    .. half transformation.

    ps

i dont think bosque is asking what the phrase means, he's smart enough to know, only what it has to do with the cast changes

Well excuse me if he knew. I thought he didn't but miss understandings do happen from time to time.

To answer your question I would say that there have been shows in the past where cast members change and for whatever reasons story lines are altered which have resulted in the demise of the show. I was a little flippant when I implied it had jumped the shark in my original post but I did later qualify that we don't know yet if it has.

As for what happened to george this week, (I agree that there are no hard rules in fantasy drama) but his half and half situation was a little 'last second rewrite' to tie up a plot line.

I know what jumping the shark means, I just didn't understand its use in connection with a few cast changes. Being Human is still the best UK drama on any of the channels.

Last minute rewrites are usually not a good thing....let's keep our fingers crossed. I would like one of the stars/producers to take to twitter so we know what really happened.
