Hi, I have just pre-ordered my UK PS3 but am currently on holiday in Orlando and wanted to buy some games here, can anybody confirm that all the games I buy in the US will work on my UK PS3?

Also what about blu-ray movies do all the US versions work on the UK model?

    Cheers

    Lee

I don't have time to look now but I think someone suggested on here yesterday that games are region free so will work, but that some games will limit your online play to the region of the disc.

Can someone please tell me if games(from any region) actually state which region they are from on the back of the box - or do they make no mention of it? Thanks

Thanks, so if there is no way to tell which region a game is from by looking at the box, this means that we will have to be carefull when buying pre owned (from Game etc) if online play is a wanted feature. The lag times may make things unplayable but I guess it's too early to say yet.

I have heard that MLB 2k7 will not work on a PAL PS3 as 2Ksports have region locked it to NTSC and that's what it has on the box.

I would imagine that you are bound to see some region locked games especially where any kind of licensing deal is involved as that license may only cover a specific region rather than a global one.

Good point. Never thought of that. Well I've decided to give in and cancel my order with Amazon and order one from VG+. I just have to be able to play US sports titles. Especially baseball.

It is up to the publishers whether a game will be region free or not (even though all so far have been). All of Sony's games will be region free however.

That'll be the first then.. Should work ona JAP one though, but I'd be interested to find out. Seems a US one is preferrable over a Jap on now then.

How I see it, nobody has the PAL PS3 yet to know for sure about any game including NBK 2K7? Hopefully region free is stuck to, considering Sony confirmed it, making it official an' all.

what sony actually said was that there was a facility to region encode games but they would not be enforcing it (so it is an option for developers).

agree that nobody knows for sure until 23 march though. i have an american ps3 and i've just ordered a uk game so i'll find out in less than 3 weeks.

The region locks are up to the publisher.I suspect it will be about 50/50 as it is on the 360.

So theres a good chance that the ubi soft titles will be region free,Capcom ones wont and sony ones may or may not be.

I have a US machine and would like to know as I would like Rainbow 6 vegas and as there is only 3 days between the us and uk release I could order from shop.to for £35.

    Fingers crossed

Just noticed something on the play.com website. Under technical info for every PS3 game it states "Region PAL: Will play on UK and European Playstation3 only"

Anything in this? Or are Play.com just covering themselves?

All released games so far have been region free, there are no reasons why this shouldnt be the case in the uk.

Yes Asia is another Hong Kong site that does ship to the UK but only Japanese and Asian games. Some of these games actually do have a full English language option, Virtua Fighter 5 and Virtua Tennis 3 ( Power Smash 3 ) to name a couple. Some other games that do not have this option may still be import friendly.

Regards buying North American NTSC games the following sites are all good.

    videogameplus.ca ( Canadian )
    dvdboxoffice.com ( Canadian )
    ncsx.com ( US )
    tronixweb.com ( US )
movietyme.com ( US but with a UK office and distribution )

All are very reliable accept for dvdboxoffice which can be hit and miss.

Gotta disagree with the comment about dvdboxoffice, been using them for years never let me down when it comes to software and i find them very fast at delivering.

Yeah, i used them for about 3-4 years with no problems at all, brilliant service, however that was about 5 years ago, so can't comment on them now.
