I currently play all my bluray 2D and 3D movies through my ps3 but scanning through the forums a lot people use HTPC so they can play there 3D movies at 120hz through the Acer h5360BD.

Would it be worth my while installing a bluray drive into my PC to get 3D at 120hz and would it be better to play 2D at 120hz through HTPC.?

Do you have a 3D graphics card too? If you are going to that expense it might be worth upgrading your PJ?

    Hi Steve,

I actually just built a pc about 2 month's back not even thinking about using it as HTPC at the time.
The graphics card installed is the AMD HD7850 so i think it does for 3D.

The only thing the PC is missing is a bluray drive but i wouldnt know where to start on purchasing one of them. I noticed you said about upgrading the projector what would i gain apart from 1080p ?

If you got a new 1080p machine they would do full 3D. The BenQ 1070 or Optoma HD25 would be good.

I'm not sure what you mean by full 3D I was asking more about the 120hz in 3D. I know my projector is 720p but I'm guessing through the ps3 it play 3d at 60hz and apparently you can run it at 120hz through pc. Are you saying a new projector would play 120hz without the need for HTPC?

Yes mate that's what I am saying. But if you have a graphics card and only need a 3D bluray player then it's up to you really.

I'm actually tempted to get a new projector now :)

Do you think the optima hd131 would be a big step up from the Acer h5360bd in 2D and 3D ?

Oh dear! Anyone want to buy an Acer ;-)

Actually when I 1st bought the Acer people were buying them just for the 3D as a 2nd projector. I take it newer projectors are even better for 3D . Oh well now have to nip my wife's head lol.

Upgraditis lol. I feel I'm loosing out on qaulity with all my 1080p blurays but I just bought a new screen. Maybe put my Acer on eBay as I have no idea of an asking price. The other thing making me want to upgrade is the Acer has limited setting for calibration . I'm itching like crazy now lol.
