Re: Toshiba 32XV505DB LCD TV Review

excellent review, but i think the model number should be 32xv555db which is the latest. This is an awesome tv for the money i have one in the bedroom and the picture quality is superb. i found it cheapest on digital directs website. £468.00 delivered its about £20 quid cheaper than everywhere else. great tele for the money if it isnt going to be your main tv as a spare room or bedroom tv it is ideal.

Thanks for review.

Are the settings in text review and adjustments in video review the ones you settled on.

Would you imagine same settings should provide good results on 37' & 42' XV ?

Finally, general-ish question. Do you find the best settings can be applied to SD & HD, or should SD & HD have separate settings.

Thanks again.

The settings in the images are not the final calibrated settings. Copying them if they were is pointless to you as its a different TV in a different environment.

No genuine review site that adheres to standards would provide any user settings as they would understand its pointless. We will never give out settings because they are meaningless to another TV. Any review site or anyone claiming to be a professional calibrator would never publish settings.

It's not hard to find the best settings yourself by just taking an hour or so to set it up using a copy of DVE or other test DVD/BD and watching this video Tutorial - Basic TV Calibration
If you want the very best, hire someone to do it for you.

No the model and its number is correct.
The XV555 will be featured in the near future. We also have the CV505 coming very soon.

Thanks for reply. Sorry if my post caused a little frustration. As per my username 'novice' is my level.

Have watched the tutorial and may well seek out a test DVD as suggested.

Thanks again for review & advice.

Re: Toshiba 32XV505DB LCD TV Review

The review mentions judder with 24p material, one option for PC owner is to try and run the TV at 48hz. I do this on my 42X3030D with a combination of Powerstrip and reclock, in order to get a reclock reported fps of 47.952 (23.976*2) I have to run at 47.957 (not 47.952, the natural multiple).

I asked this question of the XV owner's thread with no response, so here's a request for future TV reviews, please see if they can accept / display 48 (47.952) Hz.

Do any XV owner's use Powerstrip on their PC's?

If you do and are feeling keen, try the following 47.957Hz timings which work well with reclock for 23.976fps material.

PowerStrip timing parameters:
1920x1080=1920,528,44,148,1080,4,5,36,142431,528

Generic timing details for 1920x1080:
HFP=528 HSW=44 HBP=148 kHz=54 VFP=4 VSW=5 VBP=36 Hz=48

VESA detailed timing:
PClk=142.43 H.Active=1920 H.Blank=720 H.Offset=512 HSW=44 V.Active=1080 V.Blank=45 V.Offset=4 VSW=5

Linux modeline parameters:
"1920x1080" 142.431 1920 2448 2492 2640 1080 1084 1089 1125 +hsync +vsync

If you've still got the review sample, or with the promised XV555 test, please try my timings.

Re: Toshiba 32XV505DB LCD TV Review

Years ago I worked in a TV servicing training school. The guys who TAUGHT TV repair all had Toshiba sets at home. I think that says it all.

Re: Toshiba 32XV505DB LCD TV Review

Nice review! I look forward to seeing more Toshiba reviews, as they look to have a pretty good line up in both specification and price.
