I stuck to my guns and I'm glad that I did!

I spent 3 hours today going back & forth between the G20 and the LG LE8900.

First up I watched a good part of AVATAR with the staff...after about 15 minutes during the flying scenes where there's a lot of panning and general chaos going on, I confessed that my untrained eyes were unable to find any flaws in the reproduction or playback.

We also watched Inception and 300 on both.

The 8900 had really impressive black levels for LCD. However, I found the motion clarity was notably better on the G20.

It was close for me. I don't have critical eyes, so I liked them both. However, the 42" version of the 8900 was 250.00 quid more and they didn't have any in stock except the display.

So, I grabbed the G20 and ran. :-)

I've been at home since...glued to it. I'm utterly blown away for what it's worth.

'How to Train Your Dragon' in 1080p is mind-blowing. Computer graphics are also mind-blowing. Milkdrop via Winamp is kind of fun at 1080p...

I was worried about all the gremlins...but this TV has exceeded my expectations so far.

I wish I could tell you what they're smoking in that store...but I'm glad I didn't fall prey to doubting my eyes.

Exclamation

hi guys.

Very good review! thanks!

I have seen the TX-P42G20e (Belgium) today in the store playing Avatar. And the graphics compared to other expensive LCD 's , the TX-P42G20e was Much better!

I am planing to buy a TV and had some TV's in mind and my budget was small. Now I raised it up.
I wanted the LG 42ld750. But to be honest, this is a crappy LCD. I have been watching the TV really close and to be honest, the 200Hz blabla is not working and there is some wierd Blur on the screen.
So I changed my mind.
Yea, when you really like 1 thing, than you don't see the con's of it. LoL

I had a short, but really honest chat with one of the staff. He knew about this and other forums etc ...
And he said I should buy the TX-P42G20e (850 euro) or the Sony KDL46ex500 (950 euro)

Now I am again stuck between choices.
Reading many reviews, both TV's look good !!!

Plasma cons: sometimes buzzz sound, the black raise problem

LCD sony cons: the viewing angle

What should I do?
Is it worth to buy the Sony?

Is the Black Raise of the TX-P42G20 little bit changed/fixed by a new Firmware Update ?

* USAGE

70% watching usual Satellite TV ( SCART connection )
15% Analog TV (Coax connection)
15% HTPC => movies (AVI, Divix, Mpeg, etc ... sometimes HD movies )
Some Internet and daily usage ( chat etc ... )

I would really appreciate to get some reply.
I am getting sick of myself
Not good at all of making decisions.

I tried these settings today on my new TV, they were too dark ! so reset the THX back to the standard settings and it is great again. It was great anyway, but I just wanted to see if there was any noticeable improvement after all the questions about getting the calibrated settings, do we really need them calibrating ? The picture quality looks pretty awesome as it is, and i'm not sure I would be any happier with a calibrated set-up. Is this a worth while proceedure to get done ?

I must say i'm blown away by the quality of this TV, especially while watching Band of Brothers on blueray. I spent about a week looking at various review sites, my choice was narrowed down to the samsung 40C650 and the TXP42g20b. Both in my budget, and both rated highly in the review section on here. I wanted something that was good for viewing football, and movies, and the plasma tv's were always recommended as better for fast moving sports shots etc. Watching the Man Utd v Liverpool game today proved I made the right choice much better than my old Panasonic TX32LXD70, i'm well happy.

Freeview quality is great ( better than Sky)
Don't have a dish for freesat so can't comment...

What I did notice tho', was that Sky HD was only showing as 1080i ? Is that correct ? I thought SkyHD would have been at 1080P

I bought the TV from Curry's, an ex demo, that was on their wall, for £520. It was £714 in Comet. I thought that was a good deal

Hi all,

Do anyone know where can I get improved THX settings for this TV? It arrives next week... I know its a year old but got a cracking price and we have just purchased a house so its IDEAL.

I am sure the THX settings will be fine but I wouldnt mind having a play around.

Thanks.

Read my last post #123. I tried someone elses settings and changed back to standard THX setpoints as they were better. See what the pictures like when you actually get the TV as you will not be disappointed i'm sure. I'm very happy with my purchase

I've had the 42G20 now for over a year and have been very please with it.
The HD quality at Wimbledon was very good.
Recently, however its been doing what I can only describe as a software reboot. Where the TV locks up. (ie doesn't respond to the remote control.) Then a few seconds later switches off and back on again.
It doesn't do it all the time, only occassionally.
Yesterday, however I noticed that the TV can't see the Media Server anymore, though it connects to the internet OK.

Any ideas, or is there a software bug? Mine's on 2703-10000.
