Samsung is absolutely loopy about curves.
And they’ve kicked off IFA 2014 by unveiling an expanded line-up of Curved TVs and audio products that will, as they put it, create a ‘complete curved solution for the ultimate at home immersive entertainment experience.’
We weren’t previously aware the solution needed to be curved, in form, but let’s run with it anyway.
In Berlin, the company is showcasing its technically impressive 105-inch Bendable UHD TV, 17 curved TVs in FHD, UHD and LED ranging in size from 48” to 105” and a new Curved Soundbar.
As the world’s largest Curved UHD TV, the 105” Curved UHD TV features a 21:9 aspect for that cinematic experience at home. It goes beyond 4k with an 11 million pixel (5120X2160) screen resolution, delivering five times the resolution of Full HD and it upscales any content to UHD resolution.

Bendy/Flat
It also features something called ‘Peak Illuminator’ which is Samsung’s proprietary picture quality technology that registers subtle differences of brightness and highlights contrasts to expand the range of brightness on the screen for better details, in even the darkest screen images. In addition, the Samsung 105” Curved UHD TV features 160W built-in speakers, for decent audio performance.
The Bendable UHD TV mentioned above also features a gigantic 21:9 aspect, 105-inch screen and can be bent at will by a click on the remote. It also offers UHD Dimming and UHD Upscaling for more detailed picture optimisation, reduction of light diffusion, and enhanced contrast performance . We await pricing on this one with some interest.
“We’re at the beginning of an exciting new era in TV viewing - an era driven by the curve: a simple yet powerful design that greatly enhances the viewing and overall sensory experience,” said Robert King, Vice President, Consumer Electronics at Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland.
Is the curve really driving the era or is it something else? Hmm….
