PlayStation 4 to get superior version of Metal Gear Solid 5

PS4 gets 1080p whilst Xbox One is limited to 720p

Konami has published some specs for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and it’s more good news for next-gen console owners who went with Sony.
At the bottom of a page showing comparison shots between PS4/PS3 and Xbox 1/Xbox 360, which highlight the generational leap in performance in terms of textures and lighting, the developer has let slip the respective performance differences in the newest consoles from Sony and Microsoft.

Whilst the PS4 version of MGS5 will render in a native 1080p format, the Xbox One iteration has a distinctly last-gen 720p resolution. Thankfully both versions will run along nicely at 60 frames per second, whereas the PS3 and Xbox 360 run at 30fps, also at 720p.

Speaking in an interview with Japanese mag, Famitsu, MGS creator Hideo Kojima has already stated his preference for the PS4 and told them that the game renders on it at 1080p and 60fps, "with room to spare".

And in a direct comparison of the two, Kojima said: "Since it does it a little better than other hardware, the image quality of the PS4 is the most beautiful. It's the closest to the photorealistic quality we are aiming at."

Still, we all know it’s not just resolution that counts when it comes to image quality. Contrast, lighting and effects all have important parts to play but as our TVs get larger and pixel counts increase, resolution differences will become easier to spot.

Still, screenshots for each version look very tasty and it’s great to know we’ll be treated to 60 frames per second, regardless of next-gen platform.
