PlayStation 4 surpasses 5 million sales target with room to spare
Sony has confirmed it has reached its internal sales target in this fiscal year for the PS4.
Having said they would like sell through 5 million of their latest console by the first week in April 2014, Sony says they have now shifted 5.3 million so has achieved their target with some room to spare.

The PS4 went on sale at the end of November 2013 in the UK, Europe, North and Latin America and is sure to receive another spike in sales this weekend as it becomes available in Sony’s home country of Japan, where it is bound to be very well received.

The news will be a welcome fillip for Sony Corp who recently announced plans to sell of their ailing VAIO PC division and spin-off their TV division, in to a wholly owned subsidiary, as they concentrate on their 3 nominated key areas of gaming, mobile and imaging.

Demand for both the latest consoles from Sony and Microsoft has been healthy, with Microsoft stating they had shipped 3 million Xbox One’s by the end of December 2013 after it also went on sale in November.

The gaming worlds' most well known analyst, Michael Pachter, has predicted that PS4 sales will reach 37.7 million units by the end of 2016 but then we could all make those kind of guesses.

I will hold my hands up and say I was wrong to doubt Sony would reach their PlayStation 4 sales forecast when it was announced back in September 2013.
