Sony’s latest Sound Bar seems to be being marketed as the audio solution for a younger audience.
Marketing phrases such as, “pump up the volume to awesome levels, whether you’re watching regular TV, watching a favourite movie or serving up all-night entertainment to a houseful of party guests,” are quite telling, as is the blingy-blue LED in the separate subwoofer unit.
The HT-GT1 is said to provide 260W of 2.1 channel sound with powerful bass for movies, games and TV and it is durably crafted in wood thus damping rattles and resonance for audio that’s crisp, clean and ‘very loud’.
You can hook it up just about any device and you can initiate Bluetooth with NFC-enabled smartphones or tablets. You can even control the bar, via Bluetooth, with your phone using Sony’s free SongPal app for iOS and Android.

Boost your bass to 'crazy extremes' - no thanks.
It’s supposed to be portable too, with built-in grab handles to make it easy to carry the GT1 and subwoofer from room to room. The Sound Bar also fixes on top of the subwoofer cabinet at the perfect angle to direct sound at your audience.
There’s even a ‘BASS BAZUKA’ button which probably doesn’t merit further description but Sony says it will, ‘boost bass levels to crazy extremes,’ so that sounds like something to avoid, as does the colourful LED illumination that pulses in time with the music.
Obviously I’m just too old for this one!
The new HT-GT1 Sound Bar from Sony is available in Europe from October 2014.
