Sharp has launched its first 4K TVs for the UK market in the shape of the 60- and 70-inch UD20 range.
Unusually (uniquely?), the UD20 comes with THX certified audio – thanks to Yamaha AudioEngine technology - as well as the more routine claims of movie-grade pictures from its ‘UHD Rich Colour Display.’
Sharp also boasts the UD20 provides a colour spectrum that is 23% wider than conventional TVs and their Super High Resolution Image Engine upscales 1080p imagery into 4K. The Local Contrast Control is said to add finer detail to even the darkest pictures – presumably with some per pixel illumination trickery.

Naturally, they are biggies!
Crucially there’s support for HDMI 2.0 for up to 60fps playback and the Smart TV features include access to YouTube and Netflix, although it’s unclear if that means their respective 4K services.
The Sharp UD20 will be available later this month, priced at £2,700 for the 60-inch model and a fairly reasonable sounding £3,700 for the 70-inch version.
Hopefully we’ll be able to bag one for review, sooner rather than later.
