IFA 2014: Onkyo announce Dolby Atmos and Spotify Connect upgrade release dates

New firmwares to arrive by end of September

Onkyo is using IFA as a platform to announce an upcoming firmware update bringing with it the enabling of Dolby Atmos sound on a selection of their existing AV Receivers.
The update will be available from September 29 for the TX-NR636, TX-NR737 and TX-NR838, the manufacturers confirmed today.

The free firmware download enabling Dolby Atmos on these mid-range products precedes the release of Onkyo’s high-end TX-NR1030 and TX-NR3030 network A/V receivers and the flagship PR-SC5530 Network A/V Controller, all of which will ship from mid-October with support for Dolby Atmos built in at the factory.

All of Onkyo’s 2014-model A/V receivers and controllers from the mid-range, and up, feature Dual 32-bit Processing Engines to decode, scale, and calibrate Dolby Atmos for any configuration.

Onkyo also confirmed Spotify Connect integration on selected 2014-model Wi-Fi-enabled network A/V receivers, controllers, and all-in-one packages.

Owners of the TX-NR535, TX-NR636, TX-NR737, TX-NR838, TX-NR1030, TX-NR3030, and HT-RC660 network A/V receivers; the PR-SC5530 Network A/V Controller; and the HT-S5700, HT-S7700/7705, and HT-S9700THX/9705THX packages can enable Spotify Connect via a firmware update, also available in September.

Spotify Premium allows subscribers to stream music to their compatible Onkyo A/V component directly from the Spotify smartphone and tablet app.

“Spotify Connect puts a whole universe of music at your fingertips,” said Onkyo Corporation General Manager, Kevin Miyagi. “Together with our existing music streaming options, Spotify Connect lets our customers enjoy what they want, when they want it with powerful and dynamic Onkyo sound.”
