The owners of Currys and PC World, Dixons Group, and Carphone Warehouse have confirmed they are in talks over a potential merger.
Both parties have said the talks are very much in the preliminary stages, for the moment, so there is no guarantee a merger will take place but the fact they have publicised the discussions would lead us to conclude a genuine willingness and intent on their behalves.
Curry’s/PC World already holds a near monopoly for bricks and mortar electric goods retail in the UK market and any deal with The Carphone Warehouse would only increase their stranglehold further.
Dixons currently has over 500 Currys and PC World stores around the UK and Ireland, whilst Carphone Warehouse operates more than 2,000 stores across Europe.
Shares in both companies went up as the news was broken to the City but how do you feel about it and the ensuing increase in consumer influence for the Dixons Group?
