Which Replacement DVD-Rom ?

Hi,

My DVD-Rom for modded Xbox is knackered and really struggles to Open/Close its tray!

Which DVD-Rom should I go for ? My only use would be for XBMC and I do not use XBOX for gaming anymore !

Regards

If you can find one the Samsung drive was supposed to be the best

I remember reading somewhere we could also use a standard PC DVD-ROM, and that would work perfectly for XBMC purposes, although it will not play Xbox games! I am not looking to buy an Xbox original spares, as they are quite rare and hence expensive nowadays (see here)!

On the other hand, used PC DVD-Roms are selling by pennies these days (see here)!

Thus I want to hear others' experiences with replacing dvd-roms...

Re: Which Replacement DVD-Rom ?

Why don’t you just buy another box?

I picked one up in very good condition just the other week from Gamestation (Blockbuster) for £15, it included a controller and all cables plus it included a 12 month warranty

I suppose I could do that for spares, however any chance of modded Xboxes in such places ? For some reason, I can never remember seeing any modded Xbox for sale any where, be it, game shops, cash convertors etc !

That’s what i bought it for, spares, you can’t get parts these days so get them any way you can
I’ve never seen a modded box for sale anywhere but on the forum or fleabay. there generally in the £50 mark, but as soft modding is so easy any good box will do

Re: Which Replacement DVD-Rom ?

Hello,
If you are lucky enough to find one on ebay try the Samsung SD-616 DVD Rom, These can be modified to replace a broken xbox DVD Rom, flash the firmware with that of a Samsung SDG-605 and it`ll even read original xbox games.
