I recently bought a 2nd hand xbox off ebay with a view to using it as a 2nd XBMC for another room in the house.

When softmodding it I installed UnleashX successfully but I can't connect it to a network to use FTP to install XBMC. It seems as though the LAN socket doesn't work as I've substituted other computers on the same LAN cable and everything worked fine.

Anyone else know anything about this problem and is there anything I can do to fix it?

I was thinking, maybe I can just do a work around and install XBMC from a DVD and then copy stuff onto the Xbox via DVD.

I can still do this, right?

Of course, I won't be able to back up the Xbox, as recommended in the softmod method, but that doesn't matter. If my xbox goes wrong, I'll just chuck it and get another one (with a working LAN socket). I won't be able to stream or FTP to it either, which is a bit of a blow, but not that big a deal - I only intended putting some fitness videos on it for the wife to use.
