Struggling to achieve 5.1 sound

I have an xbox with an executor 2 chip in it and the High Definition component video cable. I am struggling at the moment to get 5. audio via my Denon AVR 1306. I have tried many combinations of cables but it keeps showing as Analogue input which I think is the problem.

At the moment all 5 (1 x video, 4 x audio) cables are plugged into the back of the TV. I have 6 component ports on the back of the Denon, should I plug directly into that ? If so the video won't reach the TV but I assume I could get a video extender to reach into the TV.

Does anyone have any advise or help please.

Hi the xbox only does 5.1 over optical out (part of the MS hidef comp cable)

if you have the MS cable, then on the plug the connects to the xbox there is a optical out

Regards

Re: Struggling to achieve 5.1 sound

I thought both versions of the MS HD cable came with a socket for a toslink connection.
the one you link to is for the 360 and will not fit . Which version of the Cable do you have, V1 with the break-out box where you can use any component cable , or V2 where there is no break-out box just hard wired cables ?

Hi, So

None of the original xbox's have optical out, the optical out is added when you use the MS hi def cable, its on the back of the plug the fits into the back of the xbox on the original hi def cable

Re: Struggling to achieve 5.1 sound

Thanks guys I appreciate all the help. I have purchased the advanced HD AV pack from the States so should be able to keep my HD setup (with some new cables) and add the optical connection needed for 5.1.
