Does Xbox live still exist for the original xbox?

Having kept them in a cupboard for a couple of years I've dug them out and have softmodded one to use XBMC. Out of curiosity I tried to connect to Xbox live but both boxes couldn't see an internet connection, despite both being connected (and the modded xbox displaying RSS feeds in XBMC).

If live does still exist and maybe i have a simple configuration issue, are there many people still around on there?
