xbmc and emul freezing after hd change

Hi,
I replaced my stock hd with the 1.9zip hdm utility from my pc. The new hd i bought was a seagate 80gb(st1110a?)lockable from drive list though. I used my c and e and eeprom from my unmodded xbox hd back up from sibeers guide. So when i put the new hd in the xbox it booted up standard ms dash but with the gamesave in the hd memory.
I then softmodded the drive like before(sibeers) but chosen an option for larger hd installed.
XBMC kept freezing from the menu and anytime i accessed the emulator section or tried my big ass emm disc(which worked in the stock modded drive), i had to reboot as completely locked up.?
Tried removing softmod and re-installing softmod/xbmc with using the option of standard drive installed but emul still crash my system. What have i done wrong as tried every stab in the dark from cash disc and crazy extras.
Many thanks for reading
Gav

Re: xbmc and emul freezing after hd change

Try soft modding again but don't choose the larger hard drive option thats for HD's bigger than 137 you need the first option ( i think) for an 80gb.

When you built the hd did you choose to build an f partition?

Re: xbmc and emul freezing after hd change

just a stab in the dark, but i had a mame disc with roms that i thought would run from the disc, but in putting it in the screen just went blank and the drive was making a noise. it turns out i had to install mamedox from another iso first, and then it ran properly

if it's only that one app thats at fault, and everything else works fine, maybe you just haven't installed the app/emu properly, and you've changed the HD properly after all

one other thing, i noticed some EMU's go wonky if the screen is set to HD/720p so you could try that if all else fails. i use the enighmah thing to swap pal/ntsc and then change settings in the xbmx menu

what does the F partition do? i think i've got that on mines, but i can't access it in boxplorer (i did all soft modding and moving files without using FTP, i found boxplorer easy for moving files about when i got the hang of it, evening adding APPS from dvdrw's

i think i might have another partition thats inaccessable also. i just installed everything with the CASH disc and it made about 4 or 5 partitions i think

The F partition just keeps everything neater IMHO the standard E drive on a standard xbox hd is only around 5 or 6 gb.xbhdm keeps that regular e drive and makes a larger f drive with whats left when you build a larger drive.

All my games and mp3's are on the f drive I just choose music in XBMC and it finds them from my F drive make sure you put them in the music folder obviously

I think there are some extra partitions made that act as cache drives so don't worry if you can't access them like x y z

It is unusual that you can't access your F drive with boxexplorer as I can with mine (its a 80gb HD too) can you access your c and E drives with it ok then?

possibly i'm confused and it's another drive, rather than F, but there is 1 or 2 partitions i can't access, so i presume those are the cache's you refer to. i just have the bog standard drive at the moment, which is fairly full as i've got a load of EMUs and roms on there, but no space for mame. i'll be getting a bigger pc HD soon so i'll use the old one(s) to upgrade the xbox and maybe my pvr. i'm also on the lookout for a second xbox for the other room so i could use my 40gig pvr drive in that, which should be more than enough space. in fact i might try with an old 20gig drive to see how easy it is to upgrade. i don't suppose you need a special screwdriver to open it up do you?

Re: xbmc and emul freezing after hd change

Not sure whether this will help (or cloud things) but I had issues with surreal 64 on my standard softmodded hd. It would just freeze on me when it presented me with a list of roms. Really annoying.

I spent ages messing around with the various ini files and eventually gave up. I recently moved to a bigger hard disk (using the hdm utility) and to my surprise surreal worked without me changing anything!

However, Xbmc had a heart attack on my new hd and wouldnt work until i removed the xbmc saved data directory in UDATA/TDATA + cleared the cache + copied a new version of xbmc over.

Yep you need a 10 and 20 torx/star bit I got loads of screwdrivers for £6.99 from B&Q which included the bits that are needed to get into the xbox.

By the way do a search on youtube I found a couple of vids on there helped me plan it in my mind before I did it

ok cheers, i've seen a few guides with pix so have a kind of idea. i'll see if i can get the screwdrivers online as going to b&q if you don't drive is harder than getting from poland to the dole queue. i suppose a decent set of screwdrivers won't go amiss, i've got about 20 but only ever use about 2

Re: xbmc and emul freezing after hd change

Hi,
i did choose to build an f partition. I decided to do it all over again last night.Reconnected my new xbox hd to my pc, unlocked it with the hdm and re-formatted it then re-locked it.
After putting the new hd back into the xbox it was back as ms dash stock. I then re-did the softmod choosing all normal options and re-installed xbmc.
I havnt even enabled hi-def yet and have the vid set to pal60.The emul still wont work though. The xbox boots the big ass emm disc and into options screen but when select the say snes or sega,it boots into them but then the controller becomes unresponsive and basically it crashes. This disc worked on my original stock hd(roms i tried anyway).Do i have to alter anything in xbmc like cashes etc because of the difference in xbox hard drive speed etc??
I cant copy the disc to harddrive as get error messages of filenames etc???This was a problem on my stock harddrive.Getting lost in this.
Ta Gav

Re: xbmc and emul freezing after hd change

I recently acquired

N64 emulator + roms
Sega Megadrive emulator + Roms - will only boot in Pal60 mode
Neo-Geo emulator + Roms
Mame emulator + Roms
Gameboy/Game gear emulator + Roms

These were all on seperate discs 5 in all. I have managed to load these onto my hard drive. I run XMBC as the main dash and with the exception of some games on Mame particular Street Figher which is unplayerable due to jerky frame rate and some of the Mega Drive games which won't load they all work

I've have BAED3 previously and found that apart from Sega Megadrive games other simply would not load

i've been playing Super Mario 64 which is superb in Hi-Def

Re: xbmc and emul freezing after hd change

Hi, fingers crossed think ive sussed it.
Re-formatting the hd seems to have stopped xbmc freezing, so maybe just removing the softmod left files still there?
So it was just the emulators problem. Changed to ntsc and altered ms dash and xbmc settings to ntsc(i think). Then i could get the disc to boot and also select a console eg snes but when in the screen it would all then freeze.
I had a dvd remote dongle in the first xbox port, and was using the 3rd for the game controller which was fine for xbox games and selecting options in the emul menu but would freeze after this.Swapped the controller to port one and dongle to three and voila. Fussy these emulators arnt they?
Anyway all ok except still cant put disc on harddrive as filename error length coming up and dont want to rename them all.Any ideas on how to get the disc to harddrive?Tried hdloader, qwix etc

Re: xbmc and emul freezing after hd change

As youve stated already, there's no other way except shortening the rom names.

I know its a pain but there's no other way round it.
