Is changing skins in XBMC easy?

Hi if you've read my other posts you will know i am knew to all this xbox modding stuff.

I've almost successfully modded my xbox and now want to know if I can easily change skins.

I've downloaded the pimped version skin of XBMC well I think its a new skin but at nearly 87mb guess it may be more than just a skin.

How do I go about getting this onto the xbox so I can change skins. Is it possible to just FTP the file over into a folder in the XBMC directory then be able to switch between skins at will or will this 87mb I've downloaded wipe out the original xbmc.

That's not a new skin it's a full version of XBMC.

If you want to use that in place of the version you aleady have then load up another dash ie EvoX then delete XBMC and all it's saves then copy the new version.

Re: Is changing skins in XBMC easy?

i downloaded a load of different versions of xbmc myself, and i liked the look of the pimped edition, but i unzipped all the different versions to the pc HD and copied all the files from the SKINS, THEMES, SCRIPTS, VISULISATIONS and SCREENSAVERS folders amongst each, so i had all the skins and themes, and then i burned it to a DVDRW in the xbox UDF mode and used boxplorer to copy the files to the xbox HD and then move them into the xbmc installed folder on the xbox, so now i can use the pimped themes and skins, and everything else without having to change the install

i'm not sure what the differences are between each version of xbmc, but the different skins make them look very different, and i suppose thats probably what you are after

Thanks unique that is the sort of thing I am looking for so I need the files for SKINS,THEMES,SCRIPTS,VISUALISATIONS AND SCREENSAVERS from my unzipped version then find the relevant folders/folder in the xbmc directory and put them in there?

Then I guess there is an option within XBMC to change skin?

I've just unzipped the file and they have a folder called skins which has these contents

I guess all I need to do is to transfer these into the skins folder of my xbox installl and then just swap skins in xbmc.

Hope it is that easy?

thats it. i would guess its the media centre skin you want in particular. i just overwrote the existing files when i copied as i didn't think there would be much danger copying over skins/themes/screensavers. i used the file explorers on the xbox to save me having to setup FTP as my network at home is complicated enough. you don't need the screensavers, etc, but i just copied all that "visual/theme" type stuff over so i could make it look any way i wanted

btw, i just modded by xbox 2 days ago, so still learning, but picking it up as i go along. i got the xploder kit and SC and did everything myself, altho asking for help online. by using boxplorer (you could do the same via FTP) and looking round the different folders and readin up online i got a reasonable idea how things work

if you don't already have the enighmah mod installed you might want to track that down so you can swap between PAL and NTSC, as on NTSC mode you can choose 720p which makes a big difference if you have a HDTV, altho some emu's and stuff don't run properly in HD modes but it's easy to swap back via xbmc, so when you've got everything on the xbox you can use the joypad to change anything, no mucking about in ftp
