Re: some divx wont work?

XBMC compile is not legal, so use Xbins to search for it.

http://xbox-scene.com/articles/xbins.php

For me I transfer the XBMC files to the dashboard folder, so it auto-boots XBMC.

You need to change the default options for video locations, read the xbmc manual it answers everything you'll ever need

Re: some divx wont work?

I've had the same problem for certain divx video files. They will play fine on my PC but on the Xbox it will just freeze and is unwatchable.

At first, I thought I needed the latest version of XBMC but I tried this and the same problem occurred. I have not been able to figure out what the issue is.

Re: some divx wont work?

If you can work out what codec is being used (there must be someway of finding this out on the PC), try searching in the XBMC forums and see if they can help you. Url is http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/forum/

And if you get it sorted, come back and tell all!

I have a feeling it may have something to do with the cache settings but when I went to the menu I had no idea what to change!

Re: some divx wont work?

Could it be that you're trying to view HD 720p files?

Re: some divx wont work?

Divx hd files will play,I've downloaded some trailers and they play fine.Use a prog called GSPOT (google it)on your pc this will tell you what codec the divx file is using.

Re: some divx wont work?

No these are not HD 720p files that I'm trying to play, they are the same size video files as the other ones I have. I'll have a mess around with the cache settings and see what happens.

There are certain files which will not play on the network, HDD or streaming of a DVD-R - however they work fine on my PC.

I'm not sure exactly what codec is being used - is there an easy way to find out?

Re: some divx wont work?

Okay, the files I'm having problems with are xvid files, the versions which start with 1.2, which I believe was an unstable binary launched a month or so back.

The xvid files that are 1.1.1 and under have no problems. This is probably where the problem lies as I do not think XBMC can decode xvid codecs higher than the latest official release (1.1.2).

Re: some divx wont work?

According to this thread on the XBMC forums, a developer says that they do not currently support that AVI and that is why these files are not working. I'm glad it wasn't something I was doing wrong!
