Building xbox hard drive failing before starting

Hi total neweb nere as regards some of this stuff.

I want to put a bigger hard drivbe in my xbox and I am told I need something called xboxhdm_v1.9.zip which is on Xbins in the directory: /XBOX/Operating Systems/linux/distributions/xboxhdm/)

I'm using this guide here http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/xbins.php

Never used a MIR client before so I must be doing something wrong I get to the server and type in /msg xbins !list and according to that guide I then should get a link with a password but I don't

SO I hit return after putting /msg xbins !list as the image above and then where should the info appear...I'm obvioulsy missing something here anybody shed any light???Where I can get this file from so I can install alarger hard drive in my xbox...its so confusing..failing at the first hurdle here!!!

In your screen shot there is an item on the toolbar called "Xbins" (the font is in red).

Select this option and it will open a new window with all the details you need.

You are a star I knew it would be something obvious right I get this now

but it all seems to be xbmc stuff and can't seem to find the xboxhdm_v1.9.zip

I'm supposed to be looking for it the directory: /XBOX/Operating Systems/linux/distributions/xboxhdm/ but obviously I'm in the wrong folder.Sorry for being such a dork here

ok realise I should have gone to distributions.xbinss.org

yet still can't see it...boy I've made it complicated haven't I...had a nough for tonight off for abeer try again in the morning..thanks for any furthur helpers

I need some more help please again I guess these are basic questions but not to me!!!!

I will be using an old maxtor hard drive that has my XP back up on (system files etc) does this need to be formatted before use or does the xboxhdm do this automatically when building the drive for the xbox.

I've been reading Sibeers excellant soft mod guide and I understand that in order to FTP the files from my original xbox drive to my PC I need to get FTP access and for this I need the IP address of my xbox.In order to do this Sibeer suggests using Krazies mod install menu.THis is were I'm lost is this a program that I boot the xbox with ? I want to leave my original xbox hard drive untouched/unmodded so that if I screw things up I cna go back where I started.SO If I boot up with Krayzies disc I can just get toa screen see the IP address and then come out of it without do anything to my original hard drive.

Is there any other way of finding the IP address?

GUess I need now to find a copy of Krayzies program can anybody point me in the right direction.

Thanks for the input, but as far as I see that is the procedure to soft mod I'm not there yet.

What I need to do is to FTP my c and E drives on the Xbox to xboxhdm directory on my PC in order to do this I need the IP address of my xbox so I can tell FlashFXP where it is on my network.SO I need a way of finding out the IP address of the xbox on my network.THis is where Krayzies comes in unless anybody knows another way of finding the ip address of my xbox??

My first stage is to install a larger hard drive then soft mod.

Yes but you have to softmod to get an IP address and FTP in/out of the XBox. If you follow the steps completely you can softmod, get the IP address and FTP out the necessary files (C/E and eeprom.bin) and then remove the softmod back to a stock HDD.

You can get the stock C/E drive folders from the Slayers Disk - there was a link in the XBHDM tutorial above - but the file you have to have from your own XBox is the eeprom.bin which is used to lock/unlock the HDD.

I would use these in this order. Mod Tutorial then HDD Tutorial

ahhhh I see so an unmodded xbox hard drive doesn't have an IP address?

Sorry to be so dim but its all new

I think I can start the softmod install as Sibeers guide http://www.xbox.sibeer.co.uk/index.htm which before applying the mod allows back-up of files.At this point I can then transfer my C drive to my PC via FTP then come out of the mod leaving my original drive untouched.Then use xboxhdm on my PC to create a boot disc which I can then use to prepare my larger drive??

Does this drive need formatting or will the process format it ?

Just remember to backup the C drive from the softmod and then copy that backed up version to the PC to use as the C drive in XBHDM. You will also need the E drive and most importantly the eeprom.bin. The process will format the drive AFAIK.

Time to search for krayzies softmod install then.....
