Intermittent FTP problem

Basically purchased a replacement XBOX on here recently. Its chipped and boots straight into XBMC.

Has an assinged ip address (currently set to a static one). The rss feed moves along the bottom and iplayer works ok so network connectivity is fine.

However, when i want to dump files onto the hard drive, sometimes it will work and on others the log file on the pc gives the error message that 192.168.0.131 (ip address of the xbox) port 21 actively refused the connection ! Tried from 2 different pcs so the problem appears to be at the xbox end.

Any ideas guys

What are the names of the files you are trying to send ?
The xbox has a limit on the filename length - 42 characters also certain characters cant be used eg: < > = ? : ; " * + , / \ |

The filenames are shorter than 42 characters, i will shorten them down just in case.

Have you tried a direct connection with a crossover cable ?
What FTP program are you using, can you turn off `passive` mode ?
Can you FTP into another dash, like UnleashX or EvolutionX set up as an application ?

As I say, sometimes it will work perfectly and other times just not connect.

Think i know what the problem is, if the xbox is playing back a video file, the ftp does not work. When the xbox is on and just on screensaver, it will ftp over files without a problem.
