Updating XBMC

I've just acquired an Xbox with an old (June 2008) version of XBMC installed. I think it needs updating as it doesn't play videos properly - either from .iso or .img files and also from video_TS folders.

I'm not overly familiar with the Xbox and MC installation and would appreciate any guidance as it's all rather frustrating

Re: Updating XBMC

Is it a Hard mod or soft mod ?
If its soft modded, use the Dashboards file manager and navigate to E/Cache, then delete the contents of that folder - also delete the contents of folders X, Y & Z (These are just folders for temporary files, its safe to delete the contents, sometimes discs wont run properly when they are full).

If that doesnt solve your issues, or you just want a more up to date version of XBMC download XBMC Installer Deluxe : Auto Installer Deluxe - Softmod Installer Deluxe - PSP Installer Deluxe | Official Torrent Tracker and use it to install a more recent version.

Re: Updating XBMC

It's a soft mod. If I use the auto installer, do I need to deletre the old version of XBMC or will it just do the upgrade?

Thanks for your help with this - I'm a little nervous about buggering up the install and soft mod

Re: Updating XBMC

Bullet duly bitten and trick duly done. Have upgraded the XBMC and apart from showing the current UK temp as a barmy 59 degrees C it seems to be working much better than before... Does make a splendid media player for £20.

Is there any way of limiting the kids from viewing certain files in the movie library but still have them available to adults?

Re: Updating XBMC

If your xbox is hard modded simply over write the files on the C partition with the new XBMC files (in the root of C, not in a folder in C).
You can FTP the files there, if you have a new build of XBMC or you could use an Installer disc like Auto Installer Deluxe or XBMC Installer Deluxe : Auto Installer Deluxe - Softmod Installer Deluxe - PSP Installer Deluxe | Official Torrent Tracker There`s nothing you can screw up, if things go wrong simply format C and use the Installer disc to re-install XBMC as your default dash.

If you`re Soft modded the dashboard files are on the E partition.

Re: Updating XBMC

Is there anything silly that could stop me setting HD output? I've changed to NTSC and that has stuck, but when I then try and use the XBMC dash to turn on 720p it doesn't seem to work. I make the changes, reboot but they're still greyed out in the video settings and then doing back to the dash and they're switched off again. Any ideas?

Re: Updating XBMC

Have you turned 720p on in the xbox dashboard?

Re: Updating XBMC

Yes that's the bit I can't seem to get to stick. It's not the usual MS dashboard but the one that comes with the XBMC installer disk mentioned above.

Re: Updating XBMC

It's a while ago I installed XBMC on one of my xboxes, but I have two xboxes which both run at 720p. I remember having to select 720p in the microsoft dashboard on both machines and they both worked at 720p when supported. Can't remember setting any thing in XBMC.

Are you using a component cable that supports 720p? I use the video switcher program to switch between pal/ntsc. I just ran the switcher , selected ntsc then went into the microsoft dashboard and turned the required video options on.

Most skins allow you to enter the standard xbox dashboard.

Re: Updating XBMC

I'll have a play - I don't currently have the MS dash available so I may have to ferret about a bit.

Re: Updating XBMC

Does one have to have the component lead for the options to appear cos I'm not having much luck otherwise.

Re: Updating XBMC

Yes, HD output only works via a suitable component lead. Have a look on ebay if you require one.
