Xbox Mod Chip?

So im going to pick up a xbox as a cheap media centre running XBMC, and i've read up on it and its best to have a mod chip, if your wanting to have a bigger hard drive, this will ONLY be used as a media centre, so I dont need to lock the HDD as I have no plans to play any games, (This is what ive been lead to belive)
Now where will I be able to get a MOD chip? I've tried 7-8 sites with no luck, please help

Re: Xbox Mod Chip?

i have 2 xbox's both softmodded.
in my pc room i have one with a 60 gig hdd for apps/emulators etc which i installed with it being softmodded, it was tricky yes but it works perfectly.

my 2nd xbox is in the lounge connected to my main tv,and home theater which and booting directly into xbmc on the standard tiny hdd and is what i am guessing you want to do, so why the hdd upgrade? all i do is stream from my desktop pc, it would save a lot of hassle!

How much are you looking to pay? I've got an XBox with enigma chip sitting in my loft.

Re: Xbox Mod Chip?

Hello, If you manage to pick up a version 1.0 to 1.5 xbox have you considered flashing the TSOP ? (this wont work on a v1.6 console)

This gives all the benefits of running a mod chip.
A couple of small points on the motherboard need bridging, this enables the TSOP (Bios) to be written to, you can then flash the TSOP with any of the hacked bioses that run on a mod chip - easier than installing a chip and just as good.

* your Hard drive only needs to be locked if you intend to use xbox live, or if running a softmod - it`ll still play xbox games if unlocked.

Re: Xbox Mod Chip?

Softmod is just as easy if not easier, we have four, one running a 200gb hdd(soon to be 750gb), one with a 500gb hdd, and two with the standard 8gbs that stream from the other two. All are softmodded. Three are 1.6s don't know what the 4th is.

Re: Xbox Mod Chip?

Agree, softmod is easier.

I managed to do it with my laptop and a USB 2 IDE cable lying around (with little fiddling with VMware to mount it as a hard drive with direct access for locking purposes) - hotswap method.
