Softmodded xbox hd output

Hey Guys,

Just need some help with trying to get my softmodded xbox to output hd. Just purchased a component cable (5 plug cable) and hooked it up to my tv, i have tried to change the settings in xbmc to 480p but it is greyed out, i downloaded that enigmah video converter as i read you need the output to be in ntsc (mine is in pal) for hd to work, installed that on the xbox and ran it but for some reason it wouldnt change it to ntsc. Has anyone got any ideas on how i can get this thing to finally work?

Thanks

Re: Softmodded xbox hd output

I have a soft modded xbox running in hd with no problems. I just ran the enigmah video converter, pressed the button to select ntsc mode. Then reboot, enter the xbox menu system and turn on the hd video options, they only appear when you are in ntsc mode.

Re: Softmodded xbox hd output

try running the app from a bootable disc like AID (auto installer deluxe) you'll find it under the tools section

Re: Softmodded xbox hd output

There something wrong that's for sure. But how to solve it - I'm not sure. It sounds as if it is for some reason stuck in PAL mode.

If you're using XBMC on a soft-modded PAL XBox and go to the format/resolution settings you should have both PAL and NTSC interlaced and prog scan options available up to 1080i. There should be no problem selecting any of them if your TV supports that particular resolution.

Best to ask these questions just to eliminate the more obvious simple causes so apologies: does your TV support 480p and are using a component cable?

I've had some strange things with my XBMC XBox too. I've found that even under UnleashX (set to NTSC) or launching the game from XBMC with a NTSC or any other resolution didn't work for my one NTSC only game. Only when I used an Enigmah disc somebody had burned for me and used that to change to NTSC did everything start working as it should. Nobody could satisfactorily explain in terms I could understand why this should have been necessary especially when launching games from XBMC.

What I don't understand about your problem is that you've used Enigmah and that has loaded and run OK presumably yet you indicate that at the region selection screen you can't change from PAL to NTSC. That is very odd.

Have you tried returning to the original PAL MS XBox dashboard and running Enigmah from that?

All I can suggest is that you go to the Xbox-Scene forum and ask about this there. There are some resident experts on the Newbies section who helped me a great deal with questions I had about these sorts of specialist technical issues,

Re: Softmodded xbox hd output

When you run Enigmah video converter are you pressing B on the controller to change to NTSC?

After you do that, you need to boot up the Microsoft dashboard and change to 720p in the screen settings.

Then change the screen settings in XBMC as the final step.

Re: Softmodded xbox hd output

there's a page/tab somewhere in the xmbc settings area which toggles which video modes you're allowed to have

for some reason by default the 720p and 1080i options are unticked - tick them then you'll find you can choose a HD option as your output (use 720p as 1080i is a little buggy on the xbox due to lack of ram)

Re: Softmodded xbox hd output

Ok...what you need to do...First I'm assuming you have a dual boot capable soft modded xbox. Take out any disc that you have in the DVD-ROM and then turn off the console.

Next, with the power turned off (xbox off) hit the Eject button on the box. This will turn the xbox on but force it to boot to the factory installed dashboard.

After that, you must set the factory dash to accept your new video settings.

Once you've done that. Turn off the xbox. Turn it back on using the eject button. (boot to factory dash)

Insert a game to make sure that the factory settings you chose set correctly.

Power cycle the xbox to boot to your dash of choice.

Make the needed changes in XBMC or EvoX or Unleash.

You should have an HD resolution dashboard to notice the effect
(PM3.HD works fine)

If you are still having problems you shouldn't own a softmodded anything....

Re: Softmodded xbox hd output

Some good advice there spoilt by the last comment.

There are some very weird things that can occur with certain versions of the XBox softmod, if there weren't problems a place like XboxScene would be empty.

What I found ironic about that advice is when you said boot the console with the drawer open will bring up the default factory dash option. It might give you the option but it doesn't necessarily work. I bought my soft-modded XBox from here and have been happy with it generally (it does what I bought it for ie. XBMC) but does everything work as it should - hell no.

The file for the original dash is actually missing, the audio files for the menu navigation sound effects under UnleashX are there but don't work no matter what I do (including writing in a command manually) and the alternative skin options are the devil enable permanently.

There are loads of things that can go wrong with a XBox soft-mod and to suggest it's just the users ineptitude if he can't get something to work is unhelpful.
