I recently purchased a modded XBOX with XBMC version 2. The person who sold it had no idea how it was modded. How can I verify if the XBOX was softmoded?

The XBOX and XBMC is working fine, I just wanted to upgrade the XBMC.

Try one of these :

When you boot the xbox (before it loads XBMC) is anything displayed - a splash screen, or any info relating to the bios ?

Install `Bios Checker` as an application (to your E/ partition) run it, and see what, if anything it tells you.

Use your dashboards file manager and navigate to E/Udata and look for a folder numbered either 5553000c, 4d530017 or 4541000d

Use the dashboards file manager and see what .xbe files are in the C/ partition.

Take it apart and look for a chip located under the DVD drive.

Take it apart and install a different harddrive, then see if it will still boot burned media.
