Re: Microsoft offers up free xbox live arcade game

i bet it will be the worst of the worst, and from a selection of ones that everyone has.
i cant see them offering a brand new title,or pick any you choose type offer.

Re: Microsoft offers up free xbox live arcade game

I'm hoping that either..

a. they give a choice of around 10 games rather than just one ot two so it doesn't mean that us people that have already paid for the game/s they offer miss out...again(like with the free Catan offer recently).

b. it's a brand new title so everyone gets the chance to download it for free, it's a bit unfair when the people that actively support XBLA by purchasing the games are the people that miss out when they offer up an already released title as a freebie.

Either way I think it will be a 400 rather than an 800 point game so I wouldn't get too excited just yet, even that's better than nothing of course though so I won't be complaining(as long as I haven't already purchased it).

Would have preferred a point credit, that way if it is only 400 points I could put it toward an 800 point game and pay the extra should I choose to, haven't liked any of the 400 point games so far with exception to Jetpac & Geometry Wars.

Re: Microsoft offers up free xbox live arcade game

Not good enough, I'm after a months worth of live foc for the inconvenience.
I don't get much free time as it is and to not be able to 'play' when I want to is just plain 'pants' really.
We deserve a 'full' game , not some arcade excuse for a game.
Extra traffic needs extra investment and forward planning Imho.
Think I'll ring Bill up and tell him so

Re: Microsoft offers up free xbox live arcade game

It will be the same as the last offer.
1 title free to download for a short period of time at some point in the future.

That works out best for MS because:

A. Some people will already have purchased it and therefore this won't cost MS anything.
B. All the free 1 month XBL subscriptions will have expired so they also won't be able to download it and this won't cost MS anything.
C. Some people won't be able to download it during the free period due to being away/having a faulty Xbox, etc. and this won't cost MS anything.

Basicallly, MS will be looking for the minimum cost option and a free download for a limited period of time is the way to achieve that.

A nice gesture imo from MS. I really hope they let us choose a game or at least give us a decent 800 MS points one!

Rewards for grumbling xbox users

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7171355.stm

Quote:
Microsoft has apologised for the glitches that hit its Xbox Live online game system during the Christmas break.
The software firm said it was "disappointed" with its performance and promised a free downloadable game to all users as recompense.

It said the problems had been caused by a surge of people signing up and using the gaming service.

Microsoft said the growth in new users had been driven by sales of top titles such as Mass Effect and Halo 3.

Game offer

The Xbox Live service suffered an ongoing series of problems during the holiday season. The discussion boards and forums of many gaming news websites have been filled with gamers complaining that they could not sign up or get on to the service.

Writing on the Major Nelson website, Marc Whitten, general manager of Xbox Live, apologised for the "intermittent" service.

"While the service was not completely offline at any given time, we are disappointed in our performance," he said.

He added the outages were driven by a record-breaking number of new members signing up, and the biggest ever number of concurrent users. Most Xbox Live members pay an annual fee to use the service.

As a reward for their patience, Mr Whitten said all eight million members would get access to a full Xbox Live Arcade game free of charge. Details of how to claim this game would be made available in the next few weeks, he explained.

The downloadable games on the Xbox Live Arcade typically cost up to $20 (£10).

The Xbox Live service lets owners of Microsoft's gaming console take each other on or help each other in games, and allows them to download lots of games and watch TV shows and films.

Re: Microsoft offers up free xbox live arcade game

I think Silver users should only get a 400c xbla game (if at all) while Gold users should get a 800c xbla game! if only just to make us Gold users that pay the xb live teams wages feel that little bit more special.

I don't think silver users should get anything, they haven't paid for live so anything they can get from it is a bonus, whereas us gold members have paid for the privilege of disconnections and not being able to use the service we have paid for.
