Ip address failing

I've recently just gone wireless and just managed to get back online with my wireless router and wireless network adapter. How do i network it to make xbox live work? It keeps saying IP address failing. My xbox is connected to my pc via ethernet cable, therefore not wireless

Re: Ip address failing

you need to assign a static ip to your xbox on the same subnet as your pc so the two can properly communicate. then you need to set your internet connection on the pc as a shared internet connection and set the network settings to allow the xbox to use it. you may also need to enable a few routing protocols in windows so the traffic can be properly forwarded from the xbox to the internet. gotta go, post more tomorrow if still required

Re: Ip address failing

How do i find the static IP? Using IPCONFIG/ALL i get the ip of the belkin adaptor and use 255.255.255.0 as subnet for the xbox static IP. However whenever i try and share the internet connection then i get this message:

"Internet connection cannot be shared. A LAN connection is already configured with the IP address that is required for automatic IP addressing."

i tried doing router work arounds on http://www.xbox.com/en-au/support/xb...orkarounds.htm but my router wasnt there and i couldnt find info on my router

Re: Ip address failing

Just done all of
http://www.xboxlivetheguide.co.uk/XB...ailed%20PC%204

got to the end with no solution only ones they gave were: You have not setup ICS correctly, your PC network card is faulty or its drivers may need updating.

I think its got something to do with not being able to allow netowrk conenctions to connect to internet via my pc so i need to solve the static i[p and "Internet connection cannot be shared. A LAN connection is already configured with the IP address that is required for automatic IP addressing."

cheers dan

Re: Ip address failing

Have you got a Netgear router? As that uses the same address range as ICS. If so... you'll have to explain your setup in more details, as ICS might not even be the best solution for you anyway

Re: Ip address failing

Yeah that's a Netgear.

So how are connecting up then?

Router ---- ethernet cable ---- PC --- Ethernet Cable --- 360

or

Router ---- wireless ---- PC --- Ethernet Cable --- 360

If its the first one, you should just connect the 360 direct into the router, if its the second one you should try using bridging not ICS (which I have a guide for in the FAQ section on the site)

Re: Ip address failing

Ok so i followed the bridging faq, when i turn my 360 on i get a windows message saying theres a IP conflict on the network and therefore stops me going on Live. Both Ips of my router and xbox are on automatic
