Help Please Connecting my 360 Online

Hi Everyone,

Just got my Xbox 360 with a array of games to play online but unsure what hardware i will need.

I am currently connecting on 20MB with Virgin Media\Telewest via the Motorola Surfboard modem on a Ethernet cable to my PC but unsure what other hardware i am going to need to connect everything up.

Any advice and help is much apreciated.

Many Thanks

20Mbps? By jingo, that's fast, unless you meant 2Mbps

Try here for information about getting online http://www.xboxlivetheguide.co.uk/ but basically you can a) get a wireless router and get the wireless adapter for your 360, b) connect directly via the ethernet cable (if your modem has another ethernet port) or c) set up Internet Connection Sharing on your PC and connect via that.

Re: Help Please Connecting my 360 Online

Hi,

I would advise against netgear routers and so on for the 360. A real pain to get an open NAT, if you dont know what your doing then use a linksys, the xbox website has reccomended hardware for this.

Cheers

Re: Help Please Connecting my 360 Online

20Mbps rocks

I have a NetGear router and it's brilliant never a dropout or a problem with opening up the ports for XBOX use but as Para says LinkSys could be a better option if you want to keep things simple.

Which of course is completely untrue.

Netgear Open Nat=Easy

Linksys=Horrendous, they are anything but simple. Some of the Linksys routers which work are on the Official list and work fine with the correct firmware. But they are so old you can't buy them anymore.

OP, any of the kit listed in the cable section is fine for your, personally I'd recommend any of the Netgears (WGR614 or WGT624) or the D-Link DGL4300

To get the best out of any of those routers you will more than likely need to change the firmware to the Xbox Live Certified version, which is very easy, 5min job.

Thanks for all the input ShadowmanUK much apreciated

So you think that will be good enough to share one PC and the Xbox with my connection, sorry to keep asking what are probably very obvious questions

Thanks again.

Got to disagree with that aswell & I don't know if this will help you out Timmy Turbo but I use the Netgear DG834GT wirelessly with both my 360 & laptop ( most of the time simultaniously ) and I have no probs at all and my connection is 4mb.

Yes

That router can run up to 4 Xboxes with no issues and PC's etc etc
