Live banning query

Hi all,

Just wondered, seeing as though i cant post in the trade section, how much a banned xbox 360 premium is worth, everything else such as the harddrive and the controller are brand new.

Just would like a figure so i can finally sell it and get a core or a psp.

Thanks

Eh? For a premium? There are plenty of people out there who don't even use live so banned or unbanned it wouldn't make a difference to them. You could get around £80 just for selling the Hard Drive, PSU and Wireless Controller on their own. I'd say you would get another £60-£80 for the console (I sold a faulty 3LOD console on it's own and got £72 on ebay!), so you are looking at around £150-£160.

Re: Live banning query

Now that M$ have taken the step to ban 360's, I feel more comfortable in buying a banned/hacked 360. Its probably best to just buy one that is pre-done to save the messing I suppose. I'm thinking primarily for Media Center usage and system link games.

Does anyone know if a banned console can still use its network features for streaming from XP, media centre extender and system link games over a network?

Re: Live banning query

If you did happen to buy a banned 360 would it be possible to get the box 'unbanned'? If you called MS Live and explained that you had bought the box and been 'duped' (even though you knew it was banned) and asked to set up a new Live Gold account with a new gamertag and postcode I wonder what they would say?

I suppose they would require the disc firmware to be original though - or it could get banned again.

Just a thought!

Regards

Simon

I would imagine as its purchased second hand, so no profit for M$ they would turn that proposal down. They may class it as out of warranty and either somehow fix the ban for the typical £80 charge or replace it.

Re: Live banning query

£80 is hwo much "I" would pay, maximum, if he can get more good luck to him.

I think Microsoft will eventually release a "download" which demodifies your 360, in much the same way you can download a legal version of Windows if you happen to have a dodgy copy installed on your PC. I imagine you will need your credit card at the ready though! Not like M$ to miss a trick.

If I were Microsoft, I'd consider these consoles dead. I wouldn't put any effort into recovering them. I just can't see how it would make good business sense. The same goes for any Xbox that has been opened. They'd have to check every component to ensure it was unmodified/undamaged before they'd be able to provide any kind of warranty, or even the minimum assurances required by law.

I thought MS made much more profit on a Gold account than on a console - esp. if someone bought it directly from them - over the phone or via the dashboard. Don't they lose money on consoles? Last I heard was that Xbox (inc original console) has lost over $2 billion for MS.

What MS have got however is a growing Xbox Live customer base taking annual subscriptions and both Silver and Gold account members buying MS credits for downloads. It's in future subscriptions where MS will make their money. Consoles come and go but Xbox Live will remain, and evolve into a full media delivery platform. BG has his eyes on TV and there's a gap in the market for HDTV.

Sky are currently working on a new 1Tb HDTV server based on this Pace system
http://www.pacemicro.com/corporate/p...ERIC-Multiroom

I suspect MS want to do something similar using broadband instead of satellite.

Regards

Simon

Re: Live banning query

I have to say I wouldn't pay more than £80 for a banned 360 (not that I'd buy one anyway) 50% of the 360 experience is live and I think it would be hollow without it.

So yeah, £80 seems about right to me too.

The OP was asking in general how much a banned 360 premium was worth, not how much you personally would pay for one, hence my statement!!

As I have already said to get maximum for your banned 360 I would sell it as seperates, that way you would be sure of getting around £150-£160 for the lot. As a package, I still think you would get around £130 for it.

As for Microsoft unbanning consoles - IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN! They didn't do it on the old xbox so why do it now. If you've got a banned xbox and miss live - buy a new one and don't mod it.

Dave.

Yes it can, only thing it can't do is connect to Live.

I was chatting to someone on msn who said everthing works but system link. He has the modded console running a backup of his Gears in the living room and has his "proper" console online in another room, running his original Gears disk and he has said he could not find the system link games created on either console. He only had Gears to test though. If you're cetain it works though I may be interested in looking into it. Deffo needs to be able to be used as a media centre extender also. He has confirmed that windows media connect works from xp, so I hope there to be no issues with media centre.

Re: Live banning query

Couldn't you trade in yuor 369 premium and get a full £170 at GAME for example as they won't know it's banned. Even if they did test it they wuldn't have connected it to LIVE

I know media centre still works as I have tested this on a banned console. As for network play I have not tried it, but can't understand why it wouldn't work as you don't need any type of online connection to do this. All microsoft have done is collected serial numbers of modified consoles, once you try and log in to Live if your consoles serial number is on the list you are rejected. As far as I know there has been no change to the console hardware/firmware so I can't see why network play wouldn't work. If I can, i'll try and see if I can set up a network game and let you know.

Dave.
